Would it be possible to have more starting funds or better units to compensate for the lack of tech/buildings when you start the campaign?
Even the Huns have the initial starting tech and hord buildings.
I would really like to be some conditions there,my opinion at least
Same issue here. I don't mind having powerful units, but make them very expensive in that case. Like you did with your Holy Roman Empire units.
Game seems balanced on hard for me. No need to nerf the old style cohorts too much since a big part of the attractiveness of your mods is that you are able to crush the barbarian scum using proper roman armies, like a revived empire that got it's ♥♥♥♥ together. I can't stand the vanilla cohors with mismatched equipment and moustaches.
My most current play through I am doing ectremely well because I moved to and already conquered all of Britain except for London. The britannic Kingdom were the ONLY ones that showed kindness and actually offered a Military alliance, so they will be left alone and traded with unless they attack me. lol. Everyone else will die, I haven't forgotten the gang up on my first play through.
I also played the Romans before 2.0 came out using vanilla units and have to say was one the most enjoyable campaigns I have had thus far in Attila. Had very good balance, the barbarians came at me with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of armies but at that point I had all Tier 2 units and a balance between cav, infantry, and ranged so I dominated. Not sure how they are in 2.0.
I also played the Byzantines in 2.0. Another fun play through, challenging but fair. Was 28 turns in and preparing to attack Persia but then the teuton unit pack came out so I started playing as them haha.
Favorite mod so far. Great work by both of you. Also, I have brought this up before but would it be possible to get the cheiro ballistae on the unit roster for the Teutons? Also, I'm sure your hands are full at the moment but a unit in full plate for the Teutons (knights mounted/unmounted) that would be the replacement for the germanic noble Generals. Maybe have it only be useable as a General and not recruitable as a normal unit as the Teutonic order (in this mod) have just been established and they only have so many Knights?
One last, the leader of the Teutonic order had the title of Grand Master, would be awesome if you changed the leader to that instead of a King. Again, thank you for making this mod... Brought this game back to life for me!
Had two campaigns so far, the first one was as the West Romans on version 1.0
Slowly expanded out of Italy making friends with the Byzantines and Macedonians, its very important in my opinion that the Roman factions stick together like glue and support each other, the main problem with vanilla is a single roman culture getting steam rolled by everybody else, it simply has no support (ERE is too busy usually) and gets raped, this mod gives it a more even standing, so thanks for that.
Despite what I just said Italia declared war on me so they promptly got the good news, by this time I had a mix of Marian Style troops and the late era Legio to rely on, I personally think the legionary units are balanced fine, in my game they are always outnumbered by 2 or 3 armies anyway.
Anyway, started to expand into europe, mainly because the barbarian factions kept declaring war on me, all of my expansion was based on them attacking first, I think the AI just like to think "Oh look a player! Lets attack him for no reason even if he is 10 times more powerful than me!"
Shortly after controlling most of europe and pieces of spain the new version of the mod came out so I kicked off a brief macedonian game, then prompty changed to the Byzantines when they couldn't get Legion Units (love them too much).
2.0 as the Byzantine Empire, only just started this play through so its much shorter
Again making sure to keep Macedon and Illriylia (spelt that wrong) sweet and on my side, I slowly expanded to the north being careful to keep the persian empire neutral, once you get your economy going you turn into a power house and can just push back the barbarian zerg rush with solid lines of Legionaries backed up by archers which cavalry on the flanks. I had a hell of a lot of trouble with the huns, constantly having to resettle regions they scorched, by after smashing army after army (one epic battle had 3 of my armies vs 5 of theirs, holy hell that was scary to play) they eventually went for a peace and buggered off to the north, after that things got quite easy.
After securing a peace and being able to actually relax for a bit, I decided to build up some more armies and send them to Rome to help the Empire beat back those treacherous italians and the hordes of barbarian factions jumping on the band wagon and attacking the romans for the sheer hell of it.
Saved the game as 2 Byzantine, 1 Macedon and 2 Roman Armies link up in italy to push back those bloody barbarians.
SHORT VERSION:
- Love the balance, having several Roman Factions really makes them stick together and survive, especially because the barbarians love to all jump on the band wagon in each other's wars.
- Legionaries are a god send, I like how only the Byzantine and Roman faction can get them, makes them unique and stops the Roman buffer states from being overpowered, in my opinion.
- Thats it really, overall the game is just so much more fun and enjoyable than vanilla, I would rather play as a 'civillised' faction than a barbarian one and this mod gives me exactly that.
Suggestions:
- Buff the mongols, ive yet to see them despite them declaring war on me alongside the huns.
- Make the Roman factions more friendly with eachother at the start? When the AI control the Byzantines and eastern roman factions things are generally fine but the west Roman factions get put into trouble because they fight each other (Im looking at you Italia) instead of banding together to beat back the barbarians.
Nothing major, just maybe put West Rome and Italia into a non-aggression pact and maybe a defensive alliance, and have Macedon and the Byzantines in a non aggression pact and trade partners.
Overall, you got me into Atillia and Ill never go back to vanilla again, so thanks very much! My apologies for the huge post.
As for Italia fair enough, they still a faction able to be liberated? Might be handy to get them off the ground as the Romans, providing the romans dont get wiped out by the ostrogoths first.
Anyway I'm still looking for a co op buddy, if anyone wants to get a game add me on steam! Cheers
