Found some cats.
I really dont know what to do im really new to this mod could anyone give me any tips on what to do with 4 cats because I have no idea what animals are even used for in this game besides chickens.

plus they shall hunt mice and rats and birds ;)

Whenever I find a cat on a shelf at a General Store, I take it off the shelf or out of its little cage and free it. I can't feed it (even when I have an Opened Cat Food item in my inventory), so I just let it sit there and hope it does something.

Oddly, HC cats can't eat cat food (even though I had just opened one and it's in the Hydrocraft\media\scripts\Cats.txt "feed cat" recipe) but must be fed with a "pet bowl", water, and some fish/meat or an open tuna can. I added CannedBologneseOpen, CannedSardinesOpen, ChickenFried, and HamSlice to the recipe.

It's been a while since I played, but I just liked to collect them. Eventually I turned into a Crazy Cat Guy with 20 cats in my floating apartment.
