What does CTRL+L have to do with it?

Have you used cheats in your playthrough?

Yea... sometimes I do and sometimes I dont. I have used CTRL+L and X plenty of times after I get bored.

Yes that cheat could break some other things. Never use the level up cheat. It makes the game harder and eventually breaks it. After it is broken ther is no simple way to fix it and you will have to start over.

You can export and add atrribute, skill, and proficiency points instead then import. Adding upgrade points is the safest way that should be compatible with all mods. Then spend points in game to upgrade your stats without leveling. You can add cash too if you like.

Click on statistics button in lower left corner of character stats screen. Then you will see the buttons to export and import. Click on export, save and exit, look in your documents folder for warband and find characters folder inside that. You will find a text file with your character's name. Open it in notepad and carefully edit the numbers I mentioned before. Try not to mess with anything else and do not alter stats directly, use the upgrade points instead. Directly modifying stats usually also works but sometimes can break things so safer not to do it. Save the file and close. Go back into the import/export screen and hit import. It will then tell you it worked and you will see the added points.

Other in game cheats are pretty safe to use within reason, it is just the level up that is especially dangerous.
