Cannot find lady in private

I've courted a lady with her fathers permission. She send me a letter to visit her in private but when I arrive in the room she isn't there. When I ask other NPCs where she is, they claim she is in the city but I cannot find her when I visit the room in private or when I visit the castle. Can anyone explain how to fix this?
