Are you running other mods?
normally i dont run any other programs with ark, sometimes i have chrome open which i know people complain about but isnt a problem for me, and normally i close it anyway. i have a lot of other mods running, but nothing too crazy. i could give a list but it would be pretty long.
well, ill try reinstalling the map, and some of my mods first. This might be a nooby question, but how do i save my singleplayer game so that if i have to reinstall ARK i can just put my save back in? thanks.
You should list the mods.
You may not recognize the mods as "nothing too crazy"; but it does not require a "crazy mod" to create a memory leak, just a bad instruction or asset causing a cascade of bad instructions.
The mods you run are important to discerning where the problem lies.
Make a backup copy of the SavedArk files. In that folder are each player that has logged on listed by their SteamID and all the tribes created, as well as your map files for all the maps you have used (these are not MOD files, but "World Map" files that hold the data / content of the worlds you have played on.
Yeah, its probably an incompatible mod or something like that, i should have thought. Here are my mods that i have installed (i would give the ID's but that would take forever and im pretty sure you can find them by searching these exact names) these are in order from my install, top priority to bottom:
Anunnaki Genesis v3.8.2
CV's Resource stacks
GateMod
Big Raft
Industrial Grinder
CV's Egg N Poop Collector N Incubator
Bridge
CV's Dragon God Mod
Slay Scopes
CV's Death Helper
CV's Pet Finder
STARK WARS: Pluggin [Lanth_ART_Preveiws_Tests] v2.1 XWING
CV's Photon Sentry N Rifle
Utility Saddles 2.0.2.0
STARK WARS: Survival Evolved -WIP- Map Ext.
ARK Futurism
Progressive Weapons & Tools
CV's Oil Compressor
CV's Bulk Crafters
Resource Crops
Pimp My Dino
Also, thanks for the help on the saves thing!
If the issue was specifically with your PC, or anyones PC for that matter, it wouldn't specifically happen when on a single map.
It's a well known fact that the Ark Devs have yet to get around to making Ark as smooth as it could be, odds are because of this fact this maps level of detail and size makes the games performance and component usage unstable. Thus, resulting in overuse of your RAM.
EG. I can run everything on Epic, on The Center and the original Ark map, as well as Shigo and a few others. On Valhalla I have to nerf it considerably. And each time my friends and I have crashed, it's always been accompanied by massive RAM use.
TL;DR - Ark might need to be stabilised and worked on before performance on a map of this size and scale is up to par with smaller islands. Probably not a Valhalla map problem.
i had a feeling that was the issue. i can always just get more ram, that seems to be all it needs (i have a GTX 770 for graphics, and I7-4790k processor, so its probably just RAM that i need, although my GPU is slightly out of date). What about the random unrendered map tiles? i think that could be the result of the game trying to save on RAM but idk.
