Not sure a bug due to new patch or not...
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=686565748

I have a permanent night sky during the day..also no fog in the caves.

This is an issue I am having since our server patched to the new 241.1 patch.

I have been playing with no issues like this until this patch and we had to do a rollback on our saves due to the bug introduced to flyers with 241.0

I can load the Valhalla map just fine on my single player game with no issue and see the normal daytime sky etc and everything is as it should be..the problem is only when logged into our mulitplayer server.

Any idea what is causing it or how to fix it?

I didn't have it but another person complained about it. Trying changing the sky quality settings (or whatever it's called).

I've been wondering the same thing but it only occurs for me when the directx 10 launch parameters are used. are you using them perhaps? before the 241 patch those launch parameters didn't make the sky black but a darker blue with stars always slightly visible whereas the Island map never showed a darker sky with slightly visible starts during the day time with the launch parameter used.

Yeah I am...but I did a verify cache and it seemed to have taken care of the issue.

But yeah the sky you are describing is what I and a friend who plays on our server on a Mac are seeing. The blue with stars showing. Though still a far cry better than the all night sky...lol
And much much better than the crap they called the "improved lighting and True Sky" for -sm4 users.

Still dont get it though that I could play my single player world of Valhalla with no problem..only on our server did it appear.
Same here

I haven;t got that but I have been gettign this.

On both sides of the screen depending on which way I turned. I hadn;t changed anything with my graphics settings but it seemed to start after the most recent Ark patch/update. I reported it on the ark steam forums origionally but then I logged on my singleplayer game on the vanilla map and didn;t have that problem there. Although do oddly see clouds there (but not on vahalla) dispite my Truesky settings being off. (I've had them off almost as long as I;ve played ark.)

Additonal note: Another server member is gettign this to. Seems to be only in the southern/west sides of the map at least so far that we have seen. Which unfortunatly is the area I live and have all my dinos. Extremly annoying as well as distracting at least to me :( I hope there is a fix for it soon because I don;t want to have to move everything north.

Got the same on the east and west sides of map..do you also have strange moon and sun movements , noticeable if you watch the sun set in the west.

Yes... :/ Though I forgot to mention it here. I live in a cave so don;t see it all the time but I noticed it when was out one night. The moon though more fadded moves back to the starting point where it becomes the sun. You can basicy watch it. I don;t know if our server having shorter nights could be part of it though. Lighting is also different. Sunrise and sets have a green hue. I also don;t know why but I used to think my rex was black but now it looks brown with green splotches O.o Anywya sthat may be a different matter.

Same here. I figuered out that the problem is the -sm4 launch option.
Without it , everything is ok.
Only strage the only Valhalla has now this Problem

Yeh someone else suggested that but I haven't put anything into launch options. That either.

I was getting the same issue you are describing and what fixed it for me is this. Also worth noting is I have to do this each time I play now.

Go into your options and set the sky quality all the way up. Turn your players FOV to about 25% and then hit "apply" then "save".

Close the game out entirely and then re-launch, when you get in game set your sky quality to the lowest or whatever you prefer and then change you FOV back to max or whatever you had it at and this should fix the issue. (I normally would run lowest sky quality with my FOV turned up all the way)

To avoid doing this each time you could increase the sky quality and lower FOV before logging off each day, but I'm too lazy/forgetful and deal with re-launching each time.

Hopefully this works for you too and anyone else experiencing the circular FOV issue.

Edit: Please post back if this fixed if for you.
Double edit: I run on a GTX 980 and don't have any sm4 options enabled or any DX10 parameters.

I think a lot of this issue has to do with the new 241 patch from the devs and the lighting and true Sky changes they made for the -d3d10 and -sm4 users to improve the sky quality. Because this issue only happened after this patch hit, at least for me.
So maybe the map itself needs updated to properly work with the new patch and -sm4 lighting and sky changes in it as it has not been updated in nearly a month now.

Can confirm that I'm seeing this same problem. They likely do need to update the map to fix this.
EliteGamer11388 25 May, 2016 @ 2:15am
I'm having the same issue, permanant night sky, but not all my players are having it. I tried everything suggested here, I even reinstalled the map, and I do not have any launch parameters set.

Dear DEV is there no posibility to fix this . I cant play on DX11 because of my slow PC.
Since 2 Weeks im playing with the Black sky. meantime its not funny anymore.
EliteGamer11388 30 May, 2016 @ 1:45am
I play on DX11 and have the issue, so DirectX version obviously doesn't make a difference
