Valhalla Redux
Valhalla may be corrupting save files... (please read and discuss)
I know that both WC and Valhalla devs are working on updates... I preface this entire thing with that because who knows - maybe this issue gets resolved with all of it. But I wanted to post this because since 11:30 this morning (I had the day off and love my server lol) I have been doing extensive testing. PLEASe excuse the wall of text... I will try to be to the point - I do like to provide details.

First - the CMD line since i know people will request it...

11:45 PM 4/14 we fresh wipe our server - install Valhalla. We loaded Valhalla PERFECTLY using instructions by EK, including how to load other mods. We failed to make sure the mods we were loading were Valhalla friendly... soooo

11:15 AM 4/15 server goes down. We realize the error of our ways. We fresh wipe all the saved files, all the data, all the mods. We fresh load valhalla

3 hours of trying to get the corrupted save file to load, and giving up... realizing I should flush the currently valhalla server side files.....

3:45 PM 4/15 - Server is back up and running. Vanilla Valhalla with the only customizations being in our ini files. (gather rates, leveling exp, and etc - common stuff nothing whacky)

5:00 4/15 - people reporting serrver is online, people are on the server. However - people trying to getinto server are getting a time out message. Memory useage is about 50% CPU is flatlined at zero (strange that anyone is even ingame with a 0 CPU)

7:15 4/15 - Restart server. CPU never comes above 0

8:00 PM 4/15 - Fresh load vahalla server side, wipe saved files again. Server loads perfectly.. NO PROBLEM.

8:15 - just for ♥♥♥♥♥ n gigs figure lets try to load the save file from the 3:25 boot. Nope. NOTHING.

TLDR: Valhalla will fresh load (it absolutely requires saved files to be flushed, and the valhalla mod to reloaded - this is a MUST - forwhatever reason it refuses to load with no saved files and the hours old valhalla... must be fresh. ) However - twice so far we have had save files corrupted. The one from last night - i take full responsibility for - should test the mods together first. The fresh vanilla valhalla from 3:25 is absolutely a mystery to me.

Also I know someone will say both Valhalla installs were not clean... that seems to be a solution. The install at the time of load SEEMED fine...

IE - Trilobites spawning no problem. No time crashs in the sensitive volcano/snow areas. etcetcetc

Again sorry for wall of text -this is a GORGEOUS map, and the work is sincerely appreciated. I post this not to ♥♥♥♥♥ and complain - but to seek help and the error ofr my ways.

you cannot have both on the same port

you can try to load a corrupt savegame using -noninlinesaveload
which is experimental so have a backup

The 4/15 5:00 problem just happens randomly. Server seems to be online with players on but won't accept joins and neither are these players really online. At that point you can only kill it and load it from last save.

Have you checked for saving works? Like doing "cheat saveworld" and check for time+date on the lastest Valhalla.ark.

I am resetting my test server and starting clean every now and then. Never had an issue with corrupt savegames.
Is it a hosted gameserver like Nitrado/Havoc or a root?

Funny thing bout the port... I cant tell you why it doubled like that....

I forgot to mention, autosave every 30. So the 3:35 load, was saved to 6:42 by the time I brought it down. We tried SP and MP to bring it up, to no avail. The 5:00 problem I do know is common, there can be NO doubt on that when dealing with unofficial server... the problem was when the save file did not boot. The server having been fresh booted @ 3:45 did not create its usual profile back ups... in other words - we ONLY had ONE save file (to work with on that mid day wipe.)

Kind of an update here too: After I posted this we loaded with a fresh save wipe (so clean game) and JUST valhalla. We also removed all of our custom inis (this has me sad...)

-Custom harvest rates (specific script PER resource)
-Custom engrams (every engram had its level req changed to 2- and prereqs removed)
-Custom level exp ramping for players and dinos
-Realistic combat stats for tamed and wild dinos

We pretty much undid all this in our ini files and went with global harvest rates, global exp rates blahblah (I want my custom back)...

...My question and the argument were having on my server - would ini set ups like what I just described corrupt save files or disrupt valhalla?

Back to the double port for a moment, the CMD line STILL shows this...

We host through hosthavoc

The game is still booting up... I just logged on 10 mins ago and the server did not stroke in the middle of the night.

Do ya have any thoughts on this, is the port messing things up?

Sometimes hosting providers share ports, thats normal. If that was the issue the cpu would still show activity and you would not be able to connect.

I would like to look at the save files if that is OK

edit: will do both, whatever is easier. but when i get back later - will def look into crash stacks too

I had issues similar to this with host havoc. They moved me to a new server and the issue never happened again.

I honestly dont doubt HH to be apart of the problem either - super cheap - like the Motel 6 of server hosting. for what thats worth...

...speaking of Motel 6, they are making it hard to get crash logs and etc. be in touch

You should be able to FTP and go to saved/logs and get the crash reports
