First, no the server isnt down. It is not up-to-date. Your client is up-to-date. Therefor, you can not see the server on the server list. Reguardless of the "Offical" in the title it is not run by wildcard at all. It is just hosted by them.
Second, yes it happens every time there is a major patch. (incramental patches do not do this. IE 286.4 can see and join 286.8 but 286.8 cannot see or join major patch 287.x or higher)
Lastly, is is well known and documented on every form known to Ark (since the game was released). If you play on a server that does not update regularly then you must set steam to not auto-update Ark. Then -Only- run the game using a shortcut to the games exe. Only update Ark when the server you play on updates.
So as i look into it more this is all accurate (not that i doubted it i just assumed they would update the server being an official server). The kicker is you can't stop automatic updates through steam so the moment you leave ark after an update the next time you try to open it you are forced to update. So the only way to avoid having at least 3 blackout days each patch is to open ark through the shooter.exe file and avoid steam like the plague. This seems pretty ridiculous aren't there requirements to running an official server... like update it with the new patches...
