1, if they aren't actually on the raft but instead are "clipping" through the raft. Lost a Rex that way, up in the frozen north when I started navigating through the ice chunks.
2, if you pass over a rock or something that is taller than the "floor" of the raft it can drag them off the rear. Lost a Steg that way, but thankfully it stayed on the rock so I was able to recover it.
Theoretically lag could also cause a dino to "fall behind" and end up off the raft, expecially when moving a lot of dino's at once. Another theoretical cause could be not having them set to stand still. (Do not follow, Do not wander, Passive agression)
Yea... I'll usually build my barges now with a wooden ramp off the rear/front so I don't have that issue. If they walk up the ramp onto the deck there is pretty much no chance they'll be clipping through the floor and eventually fall through. It looks ugly as hell, but haven't lost a dino due to clipping since I started doing that.
As an additional note, I solved issue #2 by supplying my dino's with a "hanger bay". When they walk up the ramp they go through a gate into an enclosed (roof included) area of the floating fortress. Once the gate is closed there is no way they can be dragged off the fortress by an object that passes through it. It also protects them from long-range and air attacks.
I suppose putting a cage on your raft could also solve both problems, but it's not very nice looking.
also to keep them on you can also place a dodo up on a platform. and have all dinos follow it. wont look pretty unless place dinos into stalls some how... but might help in mean time,
