How are you starting the map? What command or menu. Can you put me through the steps so i can see if i can that same crash same way.

Same goes for me, it just freezes when creating a server with the map.

Friend of mine said the same thing, yet it loads fine for me. Any version i've made does the same. I'm not saying there isn't a problem but something has to be wrong somewhere. Friend of mine got it running after he set up a server on the same pc and then started the map with it.

So i'm thinking maybe there is some flaw on loading maps as local game within the game itself. If i can reproduce the flaw, i can fix it if it's something on the map but so far i've had no luck with it.
I've tried every trick i know of :/

I guess i should setup a server so everyone who wants to play this map, can play it also so you wouldn't have to rely on local setup.

Here is a server that you can play this map on 89.166.50.111:27015

It runs it 24/7. You have to download the map from it because workshop version doesn't load up nav files and it causes bots like HHH and skeletons not to move at all.

Yeah, I'm having this problem too. Hopefully you're able to find a solution.

Friend of mine managed to get the version on that server loading fine on his pc. So basically you should be able to load up the workshop file too now. I updated the workshop version today.

As a follow up to this, my friend could not get the workshop release run on his pc. But when i gave him the same version of the map, before i uploaded it to workshop, it ran fine.

So, all the fault, like with the nav file not loading is with the workshop. I cannot fix this. Only someone from Valve can.

Scratch that, we will make more tests and see where they lead. Thanks for your patience.

It seems that with the current version, things are like this with my friend:

-If subscribed and map is started with command map workshop/531384846, the map will load up but of course the bosses or skeletons wont move, since workshop doesn't like the nav file reading

-Ìf that file is copied from workshop folder to the games tf/maps folder, it ill not load if map pl_millstone_event.bsp is executed. But if the map is renamed, then it will load up fine.

This goes beyond my understanding. Seriously

EDIT

I'll edit this reply so there isn't any spam. Anyways, i tested same steps as my friend did. Ended up in same result, finally!

It seems that if map is placed manually to tf/maps dir from it's workshop directory, and there is not a separate nav file in place (in this case pl_millstone_event.nav), the map will not load and will crash but if there is a separate nav file, map will load up fine.

When loading the map from workshop with map workshop/531384846, the map starts fine because the workshop will discart the nav file anyway in the first place. Only difference is that the bots will not move.

What a mess.

So, the mystery is solved. In the next version, i will disregard packaging of the nav file into the bsp. This will make it so, that it wont crash any games, just simply bots wont work at any case. In order to fix this, you can download this file and place it to the tf/maps directory http://server2.pelipurkki.fi/~dustin/tf2/pl_millstone_event.nav - this will make the bots move if you also place the map to tf/maps from it's workshop location.

Why this issue happened? The workshop somehow corrupts nav file inside the bsp and if it's loaded via workshop tools, there is no problem, as the nav file is ignored. But if you take the map out of it's location, it will cause a crash if separate navigation file is not found. It tries to read the navigation inside the bsp, which for some reason, becomes corrupted during upload to the workshop.

There, i've said it, ill go prepare a version that is nav file free and share the nav separately if you want to run this map locally on your own pc. Thanks everyone, we got this sorted now!

This is the same nav file I downloaded earlier, right? No changes, so I don't need to download this one instead?

It has slight changes but basically the same. If you have the earlier, it has rc4 on the name. The filenames must match so if you got the previous one, rename it to pl_millstone_event.nav. Never rename map files though, they break things.

EDIT

PS: The workshop version was updated to remove nav so it's only distributed separately now.
