I'm pretty sure copyright doesn't work that way. You can't hold a copyright for material that doesn't exist. If you could, then you could copyright everything before it's even invented. Therefore pretty much everyone with a copy of GBombs could theoretically take copyright for it as the previous copyright isn't valid anymore. Then again, I'm no lawyer, take what I just said with a grain of salt.

Personally, I think the workshop admins are too afraid to get into these things indepthly as it could escalate into a legal battle against Valve, so it's better safe than sorry which is why they just hit "approve" to every copyright claim / takedown request regardless if it's right or wrong because why take the risk?

I think it's more likely that GBombs was put on some sort of admin blacklist after the whole backdoor incident. I mean why would the owner choose to keep it removed? It makes no sense, people will reupload it anyways and he knows that so better the traffic and credit goes to him than someone else, plus it would continue to make him famous, why would the creator not want credit for his work? Just because of a little backdoor that was now removed? It doesn't add up. I think he got a warning by the admins not to reupload GBombs or he'd get banned, I think he has no choice but to keep it removed, but the moderators can't just ban every single person who decides to reupload it either. If the backdoor was removed or not is something the moderators can't check, it would take too much time to check and by the time it's confirmed / denied, the damage from the people downloading it would have already been done. I think it's on a no exceptions workshop blacklist as to not take risks.

^ i seem to recall reading a chat that rogue cheny had actually said he "copyrighted" gbombs 5 and that he'd get the admins to delete any reuploads, actually

This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I've seen multiple addons like this, and I don't think that Rogue would be doing this. I believe that chat log was faked, to an extent. And so what if he doesn't like GBombs 5 being re-uploaded? It does make sense, because what if something you worked hard to create and scrap it, and people are bringing it back? Wouldn't you try to stop it too?

An addon can be removed from the workshop, but it won't be removed from your game until you remove it from your game

But i had it installed wayyy before it was removed and i never uninstalled it yet when it was removed i couldnt find it anymore
