The story for this map is intertwined with a countless number of events that have happened over a span of more than a century.

The Carolinas, 2083.

It has been 30 years since the area was bombed by a long-defunct government organization known as the Santipurna during the Second Civil War. The Carolinas were originally Neo-Confederate territory, being under their control from 2037 to 2046 before the area was walled off by the Santipurna in an effort to contain the New Confederacy. The area was struck with a neutron bomb in 2053 after the Santipurna detected no more than 240 Neo-Confederate survivors; the radiation from the bomb was contained by the walls.

The Carolina wasteland has been frozen in time since 2053, when it was bombed by the Santipurna; as a result, it has been plunged into a 'dark age' where everything has taken a step backwards.

Since the late 2050s, the area has been rife with tribes that hunger for blood and armed factions that are fighting for control over the wasteland. Order and justice are close to becoming nonexistent in the land, and without a localized government to stop the warring factions and tribes, chaos will continue to reign and prevail in the area.

However, there is an organization that terrorizes the Carolina wasteland as a whole: the New American Remnant, formed from parts of the Santipurna and the New American Empire dating back to a 2053 revolution. They are seen as the Carolina wasteland's 'bogeyman', striking from anywhere at any time.
