From what I can tell, you can't. You can only add the itemsets as far as I know, the itemsets are created by the mod developer, and there doesn't seem to be any options for creating your own itemsets. There's probably a good reason for that, but yeah.

It appears that the mod author will create custom itemsets for mods in the future, possibly, depending on how active he is etc.

Never is correct. There is a good reason. A lot of the code is blocked off from mod developers. Including the code that would allow me to link other mods to mine. I've sent in a request to the ark Dev team with a easy method that would allow me to do it. I have yet to see it in the Ark Dev Kit. Trust me, I want the ability to add modded items as much as you do :)
