Orbit Assist idea
Idea: modify a version of this script to maintain orbits.

I use Midspace's speed unlimited mod and DraygoKorvan's drag and atmo re-entry mod so I can orbit planets and re-enter their atmospheres and glide down to a landing with a space shuttle like space plane. I have been practicing lift off and gravity assist to the moon as well as re-entry back to earth from the moon and I needed to know orbital speeds for certain altitudes. I use distance from the center of the planet and orbit at 80km or 90km. I realized that your flight assist script could help me maintain specific orbital velocities while keeping the ship level to gravity and using dampers in the up and down directionto maintain altitude until I find the sweet spot velocity in order that I don't need dampers to maintain altitude. As has been discussed a few times on the forum, the gravity fall off is to the power of 7 rather than 2 as IRL so orbits are unstable. However, with you flight assist and getting to the proper speed per altitude you can maintain a farely stable orbit with the up and down dampers only kicking on and off once and a while. Which means that with a solar panel and battery catching sun some of the time, you should be able to orbit a planet indefinately.

So my idea is, make a version of this script that does all this automatically.
My process
1. pick an altitude and maintain it with dampers
2. turn on your flight assist to keep me perpendicular to gravity
3. accelerate forward which thanks to FA stays perpendicular to gravity
4. watch for when down dampers shut off and my up ones turned on, which means I just passed the orbital velocity for that altittude.
5. fine tuned my speed to get as little damper activity as I could and bam a stable orbit.

I found orbital velocties to be about 471m/s at 80km and 333m/s at 90km and 245m/s at 100km

Any ideas as to how to make a version of your script that can figure out the velocity and maintain it at any altitude above the atmosphere using as little energy as possible? Maybe you could tell it what altitude and it does all the rest and even tell it a new altitude and it will adjust the speed to ascend or decend.

Multiple people need to collaborate on this project to create the ultimate fighter cockpit blueprint projection for a small ship. My personal idea has been using a passenger seat in first person with a remote control (minimalist design). I'm in atmosphere on 1G planet. Star system scenario. There was another person who made a Vanilla GUI axis indicator. Combining that with some other scripts with this mod for flight assist. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=583272553

Since they added scripting this game has become totally legit.

I'm looking specifically for a way to detect the ground and make the rockets fire so I can make a buffer zone for my droids.

Does anyone know how KC Pilot knows how far he is from the planet's centre?

The earlike planet center is always at 0,0,0 GPS so if you set a GPS point there then you know how far you are from it. There are also scripts that will detect the center of a planet so you can set a GPS point to it and know your distance.
