Gaster Blaster - StrawPoll and Comments!
Hey! So I want the Gaster Blaster to have an official vote and see what people want. I'm trying to balance him out and I want to know what people think fits Don't Starve and Sans combined.
First of all, this is the confirmed mob look, if I make it into a mob:

(I already asked and got permission from Cinderbutt here. Might even ask Cinderbutt to do some more texturing if he/she is willing. It would be really unique. Thanks Cinderbutt!)
I have a couple of base ideas here:
1. He simply acts as a badass Chester for Sans. Easy to code, fits Don't Starve. And I would give him a bunch of slots more than Chester, like 18 compared to 9. Would follow with some sort of item (item suggestions welcome if any item option is picked).
2. Perhaps something similar to the Hound Companion mod, where he acts as a Hound AI that chomps opponents nearby and follows the player as a friendly. Since the Blaster is a monster, it would drain sanity. This would also follow with some sort of item.
3. Third is traditional Gaster Blaster, which is something I don't know if I can do. It would be a full on fires lasers at opponents, perhaps with a delay when it charges the attack, and deals a ton of damage at the cost of severely draining Sans' sanity while it is around. This one is nearly impossible to code and texture and will PROBABLY not happen, so if this one wins the vote, Sans may never get completed. I'm not trying to be lazy, I just don't know enough code for this one.
4. The Gaster Blaster is an inventory item that drains sanity upon use and would do something like temporarily buff Sans or fire a laser at the opponent. This one is also difficult as I have no experience with custom weapons, although it's not AS hard as #3. Still unlikely.

The most likely are one and two because they are decently simple to code and would be Don't Starve-esque. I would especially find #1 the easiest but I'm not sure if people would enjoy it.

So that said, make a vote. If you comment, include which of those is CLOSEST to your vote, and THEN leave comments, suggestions, etc. If your post does not have a number of some sort I will delete the message because I need actual votes.

And yes, I'm voting. I vote #2 because who doesn't want a chompy Gaster Blaster? Maybe a combination of the two.

Probably not, though you might have to give yourself a Gaster Blaster Master Caller once it's implimented. (Once again, if it's implimented).

I think it should be like the hound but not bite opponents, instead fire a lazer, but still be an NPC.

why not try coding it to be like a mobile houndius shootius. might be hard, but easier then making it fire a custom shot. then again what do i know. i dont code.

I might come back to it one day, but unfortunately I'm not enough of a coder to do all of this myself, and the only other way I could think to do it was to pass off the project, which I refuse to do. One day I might, though!

I have a feeling that if you can't add it in as a weapon (the companion is kinda ok, but it's also like what 99% of the community already does) then you could try making the Gaster Blaster a sorta headslot item like infinite armor. But when Sans equips it, it not only gives him increased attack but he can also shoot blaster beams from his mouth, or....body area. But doing this will not only drain his sanity, but also causes him to glow slightly when he fires, but it also plays "Megalovania" when he activates his "Bad Time" mode.

Also, do you think we could at least fix the bug with the mod [DST] Auto Catch?
Throwing both Sans and Papyrus' Boner-rangs (sorry for the joke) is very difficult because they don't automatically come back to your inventory with the mod installed, it just slaps you upside the head and hurts. This ended a Sans 1hp run as I couldn't dodge the boomerang and it chased me like a heat seeking missle and killed me.

My lack of knowledge of Auto-Catch's code, combined with the fact that I've burnt myself out of DST, means I personally will probably not be doing either of those things. My personal method for catching boomerangs is just to hold space after I throw it; that usually works.

The only problem with me holding space to throw it and catch it is that I can't ever find a clear area to fight in, so when I hold space after throwing it my character goes and picks up anything off the ground or nearby plants. The only feesable way for me to safely throw a boomerang is to be in a completely empty biome and pray to god a bird doesn't drop a seed next to me =-=
