Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition

Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition

The Caldecott Caper
Outstanding Mod!
I went beyond just making a comment because I wanted to give some specific shout-outs and praise to content I especially enjoyed. Overall, I'd have to say that while The Antumbra Saga set a pretty high bar as UGC goes, The Caldecott Caper fulfilled that promise and then some. I agree with those who've said this is practically premium content; solid quality in writing, art and design throughout. The team who created it should be extremely proud.

Some of the things I enjoyed most [MAJOR SPOILERS]:

1) Spot-on Shadowrun feel, and while I'm far from a lore Nazi I appreciated how pitch-perfect the use of the lore was here.

2) Some very nice touches and creative ideas even on minor missions, like the impressively creepy haunted sub (and its horribly tragic story) in the early mission to recruit Persi. And interesting tactical challenges on the runs that kept things fresh and forced the player to think. I do believe this is the first HK content, including the official missions from HBS, that finally forced me to actually master the "hacking" mini-game, and I'm happier for it.

3) Great dynamics with NPCs generally and your core crew especially, the banter among them and the genuinely interesting conversations to be had with them. The "Favor" mechanic was ingenious and had me really thinking about dialogue choices. I also liked small but welcome touches like the way your crew doesn't just hang out in one place all the time waiting for you, there's a strong feel of them wandering, living their own lives and pursuing their own agendas.

4) The romantic sub-plot was outstanding, and tied into the main story in a way that had real teeth. I came to really care about Persi in a way that made the big decisions of the game easy to make, albeit harrowing.

5) Some intriguing encore turns by Antumbra Saga characters. Having Orion the Ork show up as a merchant and local player was interesting. Dorbi's development from a miscellaneous do-gooder at Shasta Dam into wannabe Machiavellian political player who resented being an also-ran in earlier adventures was fascinating (and a touch creepy).

6) NPCs and sub-plots (and truly epic Johnson screw-overs) that developed in fascinating ways. I loved having the opportunity to team up on the final run with a character was an antagonist for much of the game. Or the way a seemingly minor merchant NPC morphed into a serious antagonist.

7) I even enjoyed the goofy "put on a concert" and especially the "make a VR game" side-quests. And Horatio the hipster dwarf was freaking hilarious. ("Oh look, you've come to exchange money for goods. How original.")

Pretty much a ten out of ten. Well played!

Hi, excuse me for my awful english as I am a french player.
I fully agree with the first comment, this is by far one of the top stories I have ever played with Shadowrun. You have to play it.

Couldn't agree more with OP.

Yes, Yes, Yes....I can't agree more. It's the only UCG I'm going to have to play more than once, if only or the audio commentary. With little to no polishing, this could easily be considered a complete official expansion.

To say that this exceeded my expectations is an understement. I played Hong Kong when it first came out and honestly, this felt more polished, and I had more fun playing it.

Agreed 100% with the above. I had to wait a year before I could set aside the time to play SR:HK, and felt sad to see it finish once I played it last week. Then I started up Caldecott with almost no expectations and figured I'd drop it early on, but was massively surprised that I enjoyed it as much (or maybe more) than the main game! Phenomenal work!

I played the PnP game waaaaay back, and I've supported each SR Kickstarter that's come out. I don't know if it's been thought about, but I'd be happy to support a Kickstarter to help give people like Cirion further means & motivation to keep this up! Something to consider I suppose...

I played Antumbra a few months ago, and found it quite enjoyable. I managed to complete it with minimal fuss (one puzzle had me stumped for a while). So, I decied to give Caldecott Caper a shot.

It has been enjoyable so far, and moderately challenging; the three way battle near the docks was of tactical interest ... we did have that three way fight in the original Hong Kong as well, and similar tactics worked out fine.

I am, however, stuck on the submarine. I have no idea how to proceed at this point, and there seem to be no hint sites on the web. I could use a suggestion or two.

I have gotten two of the crew names, and told the spirit who she was, but she didn't seem to have any more information. I've been all over both decks, and other than being bled by random devil rat encounters, nothing more has been happening. I have been inputting various queries about crew positions (purser, cook, first mate etc.) into the terminal, figuring that I needed to ID the third crew member, but no luck. Any help?

Edit: Never mind, I found what I needed. Egads! Shades of the Donner party!
