mods for consoles
Hello. Asking on behalf of a friend here, but when ark comes out on the ps4, is there any chance of mods being available as they are on steam? What is Sony's stance on community content like mods? Any chance they'll be putting in some kind of mod system for the console version?

It would be better to ask that question in the offical ARK forums rather than in a mod. Most mod developers are just like you, a player that likes the game. They use the development kit available to all PC users to make stuff. We get no insider info.

If I had to guess tho, my answer would be Maybe, leaning on a straight up no. And here is why.

Mod builders are building their mods bas on a windows ystem and windows API protocols. PS4 and XBone are both running different operating systems and in many cases much much more inferior hardware than the average PC gamer. So some of these mods are extremely CPU and memory intensive. Not Stark Wars, but if you look at things like Annunaki Genesis, that puts in its own system, bosses, changes all dinos and adds polygons and sprites to special elemental dinos, that is extremely hardware dependent. And ARK at the moment is also extremely dependent on hardware, many users pushing their hardware to the limits whil also launching the game in -lowmemory mode using dx11 shaders instead of dx12, etc.

With PC mods, it is much easier for us to run mods, but more mods and if there is an issue we can look at crash and dump files etc etc. So, my guess would be maybe, but boardering on a no, they will not make mods available to consoles that were developed for the PC version. Its sad I know, but its the cross platform that is the limitation. Much the same reason GTA5 looks a TON better stock on a PC and you can make it look even better than that by adjusting settings and adding mods. Things that are also no available to console GTA5 customers.

You can hope and pray, but my guess is going to be at a maybe boardering on no.

Hope this helps.

Running it on linux here, and they still have the mod framework in place, I'm assuming it's the same with the mac version. I'm not saying you're wrong, what you're saying makes some sense, but it is still possible to have a mod system across different OS's and such. Thanks for your input though.
