New idea groups, it would be cool to see some tolkien inspired idea groups. example:
Ring Authority, Mining,
Better National Ideas. Only some specific nations have their own, and the rest left with nationals.
Unit Textures, orc, dwarf, hillmen, gondor, rohan, elven, hobbit, ent, troll,
Unique Buildings
More Descisions, Destroy the ring fo human nations for example.
Events accuring to the ring and mordor, gondor,
You can turn the empire into an orc union with mordor, dol guldur exmp,
Make the pope into the ring bearer.
I have a suggestion, I find when i play with some of the nations they will happily ally with one another and thus form royal marriages. In particular i found it quite amusing that as the Trollshaws I could ally with Rivendell with little effort and then they would offer me a beautiful elven bride for one of my monstrous Trolls to (eat) wed... Ive seen this happen with a few amusing races Orcs and Elves goblins and humans, imagine the dwarves frustration as they arrange a marriage with Fangorn and recieve a small sapling bride. :)
Any way to fix it so they dont do this or do we suspend disbelief and imagine they are other forms of treaties with the same effect?
thanks for listening.
Me and my friends would really love to play during the war of the rings with Mordor and Isengard active, yet the set tech level for that is really high and means we already have all our national ideas and we steer away from that time period as it takes something away from the experience as a group.
Will starting from low tech with Mordor and Isengard active ever be a option?
first of all thank you very much for your incredible efforts, it must have been a huge amount of work to design this map and I'm sure a lot of people here were waiting for this be ready. Well done!
I played my first game as Lothorien for about 300 years, starting at the earliest possible point. I enjoyed it pretty much and I was able to expand a little bit around the central Anduin close to my starting location and also into east Eriador after I defeated the Misty Mountain goblins. West of me the Shire was surprisingly successful and established itself as the leading power in Eriador. In the north Durin's Folk has risen to power, especially after Smaug has come (which was surpising to me, since Smaug was more or less the doom of the dwarven kingdom at that point).
But the key problem is Gondor. It spreads like cancer in the south and east and there is no way of stopping them - at least I don't see one. They have by far the strongest starting conditions and they are using this advantage. And at some point they inevitably come for you and then there is no stopping them. I had forged good alliances with strong neighbours and the third strongest army at that point (which is not bad, if you consider -40% force limit for elves), but Gondor attacked anyhow and all was instantly blown away by a more than three times larger army, which was additionally boosted by the human modifiers on all troops.
For me Gondor is by far overpowered, not only compared to Mordor, but compared to anyone. This is not only based on its starting conditions, but even more by the fact that dwarves an elves are reduced by 25% or even 40%, so they cannot resist in war against a strong human opponent. Especially the elves can't deal with it, since they are not only outnumbered, but even have significantly weaker forces.
This might be accurate to some extend, since the elves are leaving Middle Earth and their empires are about to vanish at the end of the third age. But then it doesn't make sense to play them in a game like this, it's simply a lost cause. And if you want to portray the situation in the books, Gondor should be weak compared to Mordor, since it's also described as a decaying culture which can't even maintain their defense structures against eastern and southern threats.
At the moment it feels like either you choose Gondor an crush everything, or you don't choose them and they will crush you sooner or later. Both options don't sound like fun to me.
I think there are two possiblities:
1.) You focus on the situation in the books, which would mean to create more alliances for Mordor, which should outnumber everything Gondor (or any western nation) could mobilize.
2.) Balance the map in total in a way, that all races have the chance to rise to power. Since this is the idea of eu4 in my opinion, to change the fate of a nation, I would prefer this approach.
I hope my comments are helpful. Sorry for my mistakes, I'm not a native speaker, but I think it's still readable.
