CK2 To EU4 Description
What did I change in conversion? This conversion actually was pretty smooth. Here's what I did (with links to the github commits so you can see the gory details yourself).

  • The very first thing I noticed when loading the mod was a catholic province, easy to spot in the sea of orthodox. Sure enough, the province history for Hoya (province #2971) had never been set. I added a copy of the original province history and edited the religion to make it fit. This change shows that[github.com]
  • Next up: Islam. Islam had been very nearly wiped from the map in my CK2 campaign (it was left in just one province), so I removed it from Southeast Asia, as it just didn't make much sense historically. I also removed it as the religion of a great many sub-saharan nations. However, I left it in the borderlands of northern Africa, as there had been centuries for it to expand there. This change shows that work[github.com]
  • Next up was addressing the Norse culture. They had conquered the entirety of the Briitsh Isles (except for Ireland) before I got there and took England and Wales, and had culture converted it. The CK2 culture split for Norse doesn't do anything outside Scandinavia, so I took it upon myself to move English, Welsh, and Scottish into the scandinavian culture group, and manually edit the province histories to have the appropriate ones. This change shows that work[github.com]
  • After that I made some assorted fixes when I did some initial testing. old_prussian didn't end up in the culture files. the Golden Horde had noman instead of nomad_group for a tech group. Lithuania would be better off with a different primary culture. And because the conversion was with the Toman Empress as a child, she didn't load up properly. She came of age a year early instead. This change shows that work[github.com]
  • At this point I actually started playing. The rest of the changes were the result of things I saw while playing, and frequently included editing the save file to match.
  • One fix over the game was the country formation decisions. A converted Rome gets the choices to form Greece and to form Byzantium. That's daft, and so I changed the decisions. Likewise, Carpathia should have been able to form Germany after removing the other Germany (which took far too long). Of course, they never had Berlin or surrounding provinces, but in this world that's okay. So I edited that decision too. This change shows that work[github.com]
  • Some shenanigans went down in Japan and it made sense to edit it's fomation decision, too. This change shows that work[github.com]
  • That's actually all I changed for EU4!
