Holographic Radar

Could this display technique give a readout of just your ship?
First off, I LOVE this mod, it makes the war room on my new battleship much more complete.

Wasn't sure if this should go in the suggestions box or not, as it is more a suggestion for a future mod, but could a similar mod be made to show your ship in 3D, with full-health blocks being clear and damaged blocks glowing yellow/red? Perhaps it could also show individual friendly/enemy ships.

Thoughts? (Also, I can delete this thread if asked)

edit: I'm picturing something like this, but blockier and more informative

That is what I'm looking for! :) Would be even enough when damaged blocks disappear.

Personally, I don't see why not. If you could just get somebody "important" to want to do it.
Yeah, that's why I posted this. I don't even understand how he did this much, so no way I can build my own idea lol :P

It'd probably cause a lot more impact on frame rate/sim speed than you'd initially think. You'd have to take the ship it's on, render down a small version of it, some how color code damaged blocks. Without significantly low end LOD models, it'd probably cause quite the hit, cause I think the likely version would be a scaled down version of your ship, not a representation of your ship. Either way it'd be difficult as hell.

I do think it's possible though.

Thanks for the reply, I trust your judgement. Just wanted to float it out there in case I was the first to think of it. Could it not be done by detecting the voxels of your ship the same way the radar tells the general shape of the planet? Or would that method just make such a crude image it wouldn't be useful anyway?

Besides, this mod would only be minorly useful if your ship/station was HUGE, to the point where someone could be attacking/boarding you without you noticing.

I also thought of a way to do this without mods. Would it work if I build a miniature version of the station out of small-grid glass blocks, attached it to the command room floor with a small-to-large rotor, and configured lights on the small ship to various sensors in the station to indicate enemies-detected or air loss?

It'd be time consuming and different for each station, but is my logic sound?

I know something similar was made some months ago by Craig Perko, he showcased it in his youtube channel, saldy he retired from SE so maybe the script no longer works. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=442323310 This particular script uses an LCD to draw a cutaway of your ship, it may not be holographic but serves the same purpose ;)

I know the projector preview mod works great for this

You just put @preview into the namfe field of your pojector to scale the blueprint down, put @spin in the name so it spins really cool-like, and put @status in so it compares the bp to the ship it's on. [This is with the mod installed, of ocurse]

I have one built into my fighter so it shows an active damage report, represented by the little spinning ship hologram on my dash.
