Poster's don't support bloom, which the lightsaber uses for the glow, to fix this, go to your steam library, right click Source Filmmaker, click Properties, then Set Launch Options, in the bar, add:
-sfm_resolution 1080
Then run SFM. Go to File>Export>Movie, click "720p", and click "1080p" in the dropdown menu, then close that.
Go to the clip editor and wait for your picture to render in the viewport, then go to File>Export>Image and make sure when selecting the file name to add .png at the end. :)

Uh it says my window is too small for 1080p.

What's the exact error?
Nengalore  [udvikler] 23. jan. 2016 kl. 18:31
Well if you can't render an image at 1080p, then DON'T run SFM with the command
"-sfm_resolution 1080"

I know i'm late to this discussion. But Legojay25, if you havent fixed it yet, that error message will appear even in a 1920X1080 montior. Just click OK and it will load just fine.

Render as image, like I said, rather than poster, and make sure to change it to 1080 in movie settings

You can also export a "movie", with "Image Sequence" setting and then select "Custom Time", instead of "Seconds" select "Frames" and set the range from 0 to 1. You can save as PNG, JPG, TGA.

Really complicated. There are so many things I don't get. I mean it worked but It showed the lines that outline the camera in my work camera in my image.

You have to switch to the scene camera, and then to clip editor, and wait for it to render, then go to File>Export>Image, sorry for the late reply.

When I type in -sfm_resolution 1080, it says it's too small
So when I do it w/o it, and go to the movie settings, there's not an option for 1080p

When it says it's too small, you should just be able to click OK, and continue
