2)Same reason why there is no option for faceposing via sliders (still don't understand why there so much complaining about bones face posing).
3)It's not broken,you just need to move additional bones named something like "LowerLipR1,LowerLipL1 and etc.).
The faceposing is a tiny bit more lengthy. I've just started on the right eyelids, which need quite a bit of finageling to look good when open. If it's cool with the posters, I can upload (or send to the posters to upload) the version with the fixed tail.

Yes and no. Bones do give a lot more freedom with posing, but that's null when the bones themselves are hard to use, such as by being difficult to properly manupulate into position. In Blender, for instance, it isn't as big of an issue, as it offers a much greater degree of easy control over bone and vertex-manupulation. SFM isn't as accomodating, which is why models either need flexes or really well-done bones to be usable.
