The English set is based on ending in 1603, as historically GB took over. Therefore, many of Paradox’s ideas will be in that set. This one focuses on Plantagenets and Tudors. The two traditions represent the Royal Navy (Obviously) and the fact the England had many good leaders for their Longbowmen. The first 2 (maybe 3) could probably be seen as pre-1444, but this means they are ready for an early start date, plus they are major parts of 1200-1400 English History. The ambition is because I really wanna always see a colonising England, even if GB doesn’t form.

1. Magna Carta. Agreed in 1215, the Magna Carta was the document that set up the rights of subjects to the English King and created an English Parliament in Westminster. It would continue being discussed into the 17th century, being one of the issues in the English Civil War. The document turned England into a Feudal Monarchy, with the King losing many Despotic and Absolute powers that were seen in other monarchies across Europe.

2. Edwardian Castles. In the late 13th century, Edward I aimed to conquer and keep hold of Wales, which was previously de facto ruled by minor kingdoms and principalities. The Principality of Wales would become an appanage of the King of England and become the title of the heir apparent. After his conquests, Edward I build a ring of castles around Northern Wales to subdue the natives. Impressive in stature, they were made to subdue the locals and imprint English authority in the newly conquered lands.

3. Continental Ambitions. The Hundred Years War, waged between 1337 and 1453 between the Plantagenet’s of England and the Valois’ of France, it was one of the most notable conflicts in the Middle Ages. The English claimed a right to the throne using their own succession laws, different to the French Salic Laws which did not permit a woman to pass a claim to the throne to her children. During the war, England won many famous victories, such as the Battle of Crecy and the Battle of Agincourt, where English and Welsh Longbowman were proved to be some of the best Infantry in Europe. Though England would eventually lose all their territory on the continent, the wars set a precedent for English and French rivalry till the First World War.

4. The Tudor Rose. The Wars of the Roses plagued England during the latter half of the 15th Century, with the York and Lancastrian branches of the House of Plantagenet fighting over the throne of England. When Richard III usurped the throne from his nephew in 1483, Henry Tudor was the last remaining Lancastrian claimant. He travelled around western Europe gaining support from the King of France and the Duke of Britany. When he invaded in 1485, he quickly gained the support of English nobles, Yorkist and Lancastrian alike. He was coronated in October 1485, and married his distant cousin, Elizabeth of York in January 1486, tying down his claim to the throne. He created the Tudor Rose by combining the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster, ending the Wars of the Roses.

5. The Anglican Church. In the early 1530’s, Henry VIII created the Church of England, separate from the Catholic Church in Rome. This was not because of difference in Theology, as seem by the religious divide in the Holy Roman Empire, it was because he wanted a different wife! Whilst Henry VIII may have been a Catholic at heart, 2 out of 3 of his children were raised Protestant and would go on to end any chance of the two churches reuniting. Apart from the reign of Mary I (1553-1558) and the Protectorate (1653-1659), when Catholicism and Puritanism dominated the Church, the moderate compromise that was Anglicanism would rule England and it’s colonies till the modern day.

The nations of Iberia had gained much prestige through their ventures to South America and the Indies, but in this time, England also made her fair share of discoveries. Admirals such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir Martin Frobisher sailed in every direction, with Trade Companies set up in new found lands.

7. Elizabethan Golden Age. Under Elizabeth I, England entered its Golden Age, where the arts and culture flourished. Every major nobleman owned their own Theatre Troupe, with the Queen employing the Queen Elizabeth’s Men. This period is known as the Elizabethan or English Renaissance and brought the culture of Europe to an ever-growing England.

Oi, I forgot to add this thread (and the troubleshooting one), didn't I?
Thanks! I'll take a good look at these shortly.
I'll look forwards to it
These look nice ! And England does need an update. I'm just not sure about the +1 accepted cultures. It doesn't represent newcomers assimilating (which did happen a lot in England), but accepting other cultures in their lands. And looking at Wales, Ireland, France and the Native Americans, England doesn't have the best record for that. Even the Scots only got equal rights under the UK. Maybe you could replace it with something representing the Longbowmen ( Infantry Combat ability, or Shock or Fire damage ? Idk what would be the most appropriate) or a +1 Leader Shcock due to the many great English generals in the 14th and 15th century ?
Thanks. That was one of things I was thinking about. The Longbowman is under Continental Ambitions
I though so given the bonuses. How about the leaders then ?
Yeah, +1 Leader Shock would probably work. Updating it now

2. Acts of Union. England, and later Great Britain passed Acts of Union’s to bring the lands of the British Isles into one state under one monarch. First was the 1536 Union of England and Wales, bringing Wales to the same rank as England in the Kingdom. Second was the 1707 Acts of Union between England and Scotland, forming the Kingdom of Great Britain. Third was the 1800 Acts of Union, combining the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. These acts were pivotal in the development of a united state under the Kings and Queens in London.

3. A Single Parliament. The 1707 Acts of Union united the Parliament of England and the Parliament of Scotland into the Parliament of Great Britain. Before this, multiple Kings (and Cromwell) aimed to make the union official. When the Act was finally passed, the two Kingdoms became one. This meant that the Protestant Hanoverians, selected by the Parliament of England to succeed Queen Anne, would also succeed Queen Anne in Scotland, whose Parliament had the power to select their own successor.

Kosovo: A Serbian principality of the House of Brankovic.
Existed 1355-1420s, and would be a revolter in 1444.
Traditions:
+ Cavalry combat ability ( Kosovo was quite famous for it's heavy cavalry)
+ 1 accepted cultures ( later coming of Albanians and Turks, conversion of the Gorani, high Roma population made Kosovo a highly diverse area- well until the Albanians exiled almost everyone else).
1. The Mines of Novo Brdo
Novo Brdo is the richest silver mine in Europe, covering 20% of it's silver needs. The Silver is also famous for the high percantage of gold it contains, up to a quarter. This gives great wealth, even to a small state such as ours.
+Production Efficiency
2. Battle of Kosovo Field
The Battle of Kosovo Field in 1389 remains the most famous moment in Serbian history and one of the largest battles in medieval Europe. The death of Sultan Murad in the battle delayed the Ottoman conquest by decades, and bells in Rome and Paris rang in honour of the Christian "victory". Whenever our troops are in doubt, they must remember the bravery of their ancestors in the face of death !
+Morale
3. Legacy of a Betrayal
Serbian folk tradition holds that Vuk Branković, the lord of Kosovo betrayed the other Serbian lords in the battle fought in his lands. To wash the shame inflicted upon us, our troops must fight harder than any else!
- 1 Diplomatic Reputation ( yes, this would be the only "negative" idea, but it would give Kosovo something unique)
+ a lot of Discipline
4. The Patriarchate of Pec
With the seat of the Serbian church being moved from Zica to Pec, many monasteries would be built in the area, the most famous being Decani, Gracanica, Banjska and Bogorodica Ljeviska. Our Priests are umatched in their pride and learning across the entire region.
+Tolerance of the True Faith
+ Missionary Strength
5. Serbian Clockmaking
Serbia has the oldest clockmaking industry in the world, centuries older than even the Swiss one. The city where it started is Prizren, also the birthplace of Lazar the Serb, a monk and engineer who built the first clocktower in Moscow and one of the first in Europe. We must ensure that this industry continues to thrive.
+1 Leader Manouver ( cause they have clocks :P )
6. Ragusan Merchants
Many merchants from Ragusa have settled in Kosovo, near the mines of Novo Brdo and Trepca, and in the cities of Pec and Prizren. They dominated the trade towards Western Europe, and some of their descendants exist even today, known as the Janjevci. We must make use of them to further our interests.
+Trade Efficiency
7. Restore the Holy Archangels
The monastery of the Holy Archangels was meant to be the legacy of Emperor Dusan, the most powerful Serbian ruler. It's entire interior was supposedly coated in gold. Unfortunately, it was sacked and destroyed by the Turks, with the gold being taken to Edirne and even the bricks being used to build a nearby mosque. Restoring it to it's former glory will show the world that Kosovo is the true successor to the Serbian Empire.
+Legitimacy
Ambitions: + 2 Diplomatic Reputation ( the shame of Kosovo betrayal finally wears off, with research from 19th century historians showing that Vuk Branković in fact fought bravely)
Rascia:
A revolter in western Serbia, present in earlier startdates, representing the states of Nikola Altomanović and Vojislav Vojinović. Among the most powerful Serbian nobles until all their neighbours formed a coalition against them. Exists 1355-1373, revolter in 1444
Traditions:
+Global tax ( represents the Saxon miners that settled in the area)
+ Siege Ability ( same, but some of them were siege experts)
1. Enemies at all sides
Prince Lazar of Morava, Bosnian King Tvrtko, the Balšić family of Zeta and even the king of Hungary are all in a coalition against us ! If we want to prevail, both our men and our walls must stand stallwart.
+Infantry Combat Ability
+ Local Defensiveness
2. The Ragusan Tax
Nikola Altomanović's power forced the Republic of Ragusa to recognise him as the rightful ruler of Serbia, and to pay him 2000 perper yearly. Using this wealth, we could improve our own holdings.
+National tax modifier
3. Uncle and Nephew
When Vojislav Vojinović passed away from the plague, he left all his lands to his nephew Nikola Altomanović. This precedent will surely increase the legitimacy of any future similiar cases.
+heir chance
4. Arilje Cloth and Sjenica Cheese
The areas of Raska are famous for many products. Cloth from Arilje is exported all over Serbia, while Sjenica Cheese is among the most respected in the whole of Balkans, especially for making Burek.
+ Trade Power
5. Serbian Holy Mount
The Ovčarsko-Kablarska Gorge is lined with many monasteries, leading to it being compared to Mount Athos. We must continue supporting them and build new ones.
+ Tolerance of the true faith
6. Woods to the Hajduks
During Ottoman rule, West Serbia and Montenegro saw very little Turkish influence outside of towns due to the hajduk bandits hiding in the mountains. They are sure going to trouble any invader on our land.
+Attrition to enemies
7. House of Nenadović
The powerful house of Nenadović were the most influential in Valjevo in the 18th and 19th century, often dealing with the Turks as if they were independant rulers. Having them on our side will surely pacify other nobles.
+ Nobility Estate Loyalty
- Stability Cost modifier
Ambitions: +1 advisor pool ( quite a dispropriate ammount of famous Serbian people in the 18th and 19th century come from West Serbia, and I wanted to represent that)
Syrmia: Representing several tags in the area: Serbian Kingdom of Stefan Dragutin in the late 13th and early 14th century, Hungarian vassal Banate of Macso, and the short lived duchy of Radoslav Čelnik in 1520s. ( Note- I might separate Syrmia and Macso, but for now I'm keeping them as a single tag since they overlap in area, and Syrmia is a wider term).
Exists: before 1521 possibly as a Hungarian vassal/march, and 1527-1530.
Traditions:
+ Heretic tolerance ( not much uprisings of the Orthodox population against the Catholic state)
+ Caravan power ( Belgrade was a major point in inland trade, and later had many Caravansarays)
1. A House Divided
After King Stefan Dragutin broke his leg in a riding accident, the Serbian nobility forced him to abdicate. However, his father-in-law, the hungarian king, gave him his own kindgdom to rule around Danube. We must look south and try to unite the Serbian people again.
-Core creation cost
2. Sacrifice of Nicholas Garai
When the carridge of the dowager Queen of Hungary Elisabeth was attacked by the Horvath brothers and their men, Nicholas Garai, the former palatine of Hungary and Ban of Macso faced them alone. Heavily outnumbered, he killed many foes before being slain. We must teach all our generals to be ready for a similiar sacrifice.
+1 Leader Shock
3. The White City
Belgrade was always a major city, owning to it's advantageous position. However, during the rule of Despot Stefan, it truly blossomed and became worthy of it's name, with many new building rising on the banks of Sava and Danube. We must continue his efforts.
-Building cost
4. Fruska Gora
Built by the Serbian despots during their exile in Hungary, the many monasteries of Fruska Gora seek to emulate Mount Athos. The nearby town of Karlovac even served as the spiritual seat of the Serbs in later times.
+1 missionaries
5. Syrmium
Syrmia is named after Syrmium, a major roman city, which once boasted a population of over 100 000 and was one of the four capitals of the empire under tetrarchy. By restoring the modern city of Mitrovica to it's former glory we could equate ourselves with emperors such as Galerius.
+Legitimacy
6. Paris of the Balkans
Just across the river Sava from Syrmium lies Sabac, a city much smaller than Belgrade, but with a charm of it's own. It is a city of artists and bohemians, which led to people calling it 'Paris of the Balkans'. We must continue drawing artists to boost the city's reputation.
-Idea Cost
+ Splendor
7. Karlovci Gymnasium
Founded in 1791 as the first secular institution of higher learning in Serbia, the Gymnasium of Karlovci has built up a reputation during the centuries with many famous Serbs once studying in it's halls.
- tech cost
Ambitions:
- build time ( Belgrade's transformation from an oriental to an European town in the 19th century )
It would be nice if someone was willing to help with balanced concrete numbers, and with to critique the idea sets. There is a lot work to be done in the Balkans, and I started with the area I know the most about, but I'll post the new Croatian and Bosnian tag ideas soon too !
I'll have a look at some numbers in the next day or so
EDIT: So below follows my Moroccan ideas:
Cool!
@All
I've updated the thread for Mission Trees aswell, got some plans brewing in my head to post over the next week or so.
While I really like the idea of including mission trees, don't you think mission trees should be a separate thread? I'm all for a thread for it, definitely, but I think it could easily get jumbled if they were included in the same thread as ideas.
I'd also like to include something else:
@Nikicaga
I saw that you had an idea to include a negative modifier in an idea: While I understand that doing so would actually allow for a good amount of interesting situations and historical accuracy, Paradox's philosophy is that, considering the game's sandbox nature, never should there be negatives to picking up an idea. As such, I'll have to disagree with negative diplo rep. There's a similar thing with mutual exclusives in the mission trees, which Paradox stated they will not do as to not lock the player in.
My worry was too many suggestion threads, and since they are relativly similar, I thought I would put them together.
Ah yeah, I missed that. I have considered adding one now and again, but I think the positive would have to massivly outweigh the negative.
Well the positive is Dissipline, one of the strongest modifiers in the game, and I think like 5 or 7.5 %, and the negative would be Diplomatic Reputation, which they will eventualy get back (with an additional point) with the ambition.
This is to represent the Serbian oral tradition holding Vuk Brankovic, the lord of Kosovo, as guilty for losing the battle of Kosov Field in 1389. This has been referenced in many traditional songs during 15-19th century. However, when actual historical research has been done, it was discovered that he actually fought bravely that day-he simply had the (mis)fortune of surviving the battle, unlike the rest of the Serbian high nobility, which died. In fact, he continued resisting the Ottomans until they finaly captured him in 1396. The ambition represents the historical thought prevailing over the traditional songs.
P.S. The whole Kosovo betrayal case is very interesting, consdering it's probably the start of the intranational hate against Kosovo Serbs by other Serbs, which sadly continues until this day, renewed by other events - most recently the high support our dictator Milosevic enjoyed among the Kosovo Serbs keeping him in power, and most importantly, over 200 000 Serb refugees from Kosovo settling in Central Serbia, taking up already scarce jobs and requiring massive amounts of social aid, thus reducing the pay for others. But that is mostly outside of EUIV's timeline.
P.P.S. As I've already said, some help with balanced concrete numbers would be nice.
On other ideas, I've written them up for Veglia, Slavonia, Dalmatia and Vidin, but want to finish all the tags in the region before posting.
