EDIT: Is not Nation Designer Extender. Will try other mods.
@Deserk
Seriously, again? I thought I fixed that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I just uploaded a fix, I hope it sticks this time.
@Moros
I just ran some tests and running just Beyond Typus without anything else, I had no trouble with custom nations. Please tell me if you run into this error with just Beyond Typus running too.
Beyond Typus is a huge mod (mostly because of the Beyond the Pale additions done by HR) and changes nearly every file. As such there are very few mods which will work without errors. It might be helpful if you could list all mods you had running? There is about a 20% chance I will be able to tell you which one is causing the problem. If nothing else I helps me to know what people are using.
If it isn't too much work/if there is enough demand I'm also willing to create a compatiblity patch for some things, or even incorporate it into Beyond Typus (with the author's permission). Thanks.
@Mason531
From the sounds of it, you were using another mod that is incompatible with Beyond Typus. My first suggestion would be to make sure no other gameplay mods are enabled when you start the game.
If that doesn't work, it then it sounds like you base game files were corrupted somehow, I would suggest that you verify the installation (right click, properties, local files tab, click verify integrity of game cache)
If neither of these ideas work, please tell me and I'll try to think of some other ideas.
Huh... I play tested before release for 50 years without any crashes. Are you using any other mods with Beyond Typus?
Edit 15 minutes later:
On a hunch, I think I may have stumbled onto your problem... Are you starting at a later start date than 1444, by any chance? It seems somewhere along the line I missed something when updating to 1.17 causing crashes when an event tries to fire at later start dates.
I'm working on it right now, hopefully it doesn't prove too problematic to track down. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Edit ~90 minutes later:
Okay, I think/hope I've fixed the problem. I guess I never bothered to test-run later start dates, my mistake! I had the same problem that you reported when starting after around 1500.
Give me a few minutes to upload the patch. Hopefully that will fix your problem. Please tell me if you continue to run into issues, and thanks for pointing this out!
Edit ~30 minutes later:
Update 2.0.2 is up (ignore the 2.0.1 in the launcher, I forgot to update the name) and it should resolve your problem. Please tell me if you run into anything else!
I'm sorry, I didn't know you were struggling with it!
Mods that extend the start date back are not compatible. Not because of any innate incompatibility, but because mods that move back the start date by necessity change many other things. I toyed with the idea of including the 1356 start date mod in Beyond Typus, but in the end it would be far too much work to patch.
Mods that extend the end date forward are compatible, I believe, if written correctly (id est, a minimalist mod written to avoid conflicts). I am actually seriously considering including witchveil's 1836 end date mod in an upcoming patch.
Also beware of incompatibilities that may not be immediately apparent, but cause timebomb crashes later on. It can be difficult to know for sure without looking at the code, though. If you would like some help you can post a list of the mods you're interested in (hopefully the list isn't too long ;)) and I might be able to tell you what is safe. I may need a day or two to figure it out, though, I'm actually pretty busy this weekend.
Hope this helps.
Edit P.S.
I just looked up Witchveil's 1836 mod and it seems the recent patch added an option to continue playing, so his mod will now focus on other details. For the moment it remains compatible, but the days of the compatibility may be numbered. This does make me lean towards including a feature of this nature directly in BT however. Thanks for pointing this out.
Thanks for you bug report, and I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing crashes.
I concur that the issue sounds event-related, but I'm perplexed where the problem may be, as I don't recall off hand any mucking around with custom nations stuff.
Can you confirm that these crashes occur only with custom nations and also that the new game was started with no other mods enabled which you later disabled?
Also, the playthrough with which you're experiencing problems, did you by any chance start it before May 25th, there was a patch on that date to fix a bug, and I believed that the fix would prevent it from becoming an issue later on, perhaps this indicates that I was mistaken.
Also, does the error.log or exceptions.log in the /Documents/PI/EUIV folder reveal any hints in the final entries?
I'm looking into this but I'm having trouble replicating the error, hopefully I'll be able to find a solution for you but more information may be helpful since the problem isn't immediately apparent.
(Edited twice, once to include another relevant question and fix a few typos ~1 hour later and again ~4 hours later to ask for more information)
Think nothing of it! I'm just glad it is resolved.
