Don't Starve Together

Celnar the Reticulated

Upcoming additions and requests for feedback!
Hey everyone! Thanks for the feedback, and here's some extra information/questions:

1) Yes, reticulated is a real word, and I chose it specifically because during the game's loading screen you will often see it say "Reticulatng [random object]". The irony, of course, is that Celnar is not in fact reticulated. My sense of humor is stupid like that.

2) The mod is intended to be quite a bit more difficult than your average modded character at the start, since typically they seem to be exceedingly overpowered. I wanted the mod to still feel like a more balanced characer that actually had to struggle a bit at first, just like vanilla characters. However, he gets extremely powerful if you set up properly, wear armor at all times to offset his low HP, and build your army effectively from the start (slurtle slime is your friend!)

3) I am struggling with the idea of making the Lancet a starting item at the beginning of the game instead of requiring a hound's tooth in order to make the ramp-up time a little less harsh. This is less noticable in multiplayer games, when others can work on the usual gathering and crafting while you focus on building your forces and staying alive, but alone you suffer greatly at first. Thoughts on him starting with a Lancet?

4) There are additions coming based on feedback: I will be adding two new minion types, one of which is a winter-type minion (that does not cost slurtle slime) to offset the loss of frogs in the winter season. This frost minion will be a ranged combatant who launches ice balls at the target and tries to stay out of melee range, and will be most easily created in the winter.

The second new minion will be a giant, defensive toad that emits a light aura around himself at night, but will be exceedingly expensive to make (and requires cave components) and mediocre in combat.

After that, I plan on creating custom dialogue for Celnar, to fit his sarcastic personality, as well as tuning and adding some other new features as we go. Please leave feedback if you like the mod, and what you think I can add or change to make it better! I'd love to hear from you.

Maybe buff the lanclet but give it durability? I've never tried it yet, but what's to stop a mid to late game player from making a lot of lanclets and throwing them?

P.S, On infinity mode if you die the Slurtle will become glitched and will hide in it's shell forever, while still giving the sanity and heal aura etc. It just won't move properly

Honestly, I don't think the Lancet needs a buff, though if you were going to give it durability, I'd consider reducing the crafting cost a little. Not much though, as it is still very good. One of the first things I did in a recent game after crafting a single Lancet was to go around killing all the rabbits and birds in sight until Krampus spawned really quickly, then killed Krampus very easily, just by hurling the Lancet, kiting him a bit, picking it back up and hurling it again. I forget exactly how many hits it took to kill Krampus, but it was something like 6-8. Also, the thing one shots Gobblers, in addition to the fact that it is a ranged weapon, so can hit them much easier.

Aye, there's a glitch with the shield command on a follower where if you leash it and it teleports while it's still being attacked, it will be permanently stuck in it's shell. I'm not sure how to fix it yet, sadly, so I may end up disabling the shield ability until I can get the code worked out.

As far as the lancet, it doesn't really need a buff I think. It does reasonable damage from range, functions as a walking stick when held, and is craftable to make more. You can make as many as you like, but each one takes up inventory space, so it's a tradeoff. I myself like to have 2-3 on me at all times to get multiple throws between picking them up, and it works out super well.

What I'm trying to decide is if it'll break the mod into being to easy if I include it from the start of the game, since it allows you to kill frogs and critters for morsels insanely easily. The minions can already corner and kill rabbits for morsels just by force-attacking them, so I figured the lancet should be something to work for, since you can get hound's teeth on day 8, from a hound mound, or even from tumbleweeds.

A way to make them not follow you sometimes would be awesome. All it takes is for you to nip out of camp to go and do something, be it plant stuff or try and bait away a giant or something, and either they are constantly in your way, or your whole army is about to die.
