If you're selecting a lower ratio differential then yes, theoretically you're going to have a little more difficulty taking off. That said, I haven't ever encountered any practical difficulties myself, with the exception of uphill starts.

With the 18 speed box there are two 'crawler' gears below 1st gear (1L). These are labelled Lo-Lo and Lo-Hi. Lo-Lo is quite a high ratio at 14.4:1 while Lo-Hi is a little lower at 12.29:1. These are very low gears ideally suited for troublesome uphill starts or if you're having difficulty on level starts with heavy loads etc. You must be in low-range to have access to these and they switch over in response to the splitter selector switch (selector 2).

I'm using a G27 also, the two crawl gears are at the #2 gear slot (leftmost & down).

Hmmm, the gearbox definitions have no control over clutch operation, that's defined in a different file altogether (ie. /def/vehicle/physics.sii) which this mod doesn't touch.

Yes, I noticed the gears have different numbering than default.
The uphill start I had to do was with a tanker trailer (16 t-2 axl) and I had to stop in the middle of the offramp from the highway because of traffic (the offramp that goes steep up to a overpass crossing over the highway). I tried many times, but stalled every time and it was in Lo-Lo... a nightmare.
About the clutch; I thought it didn't have anything to do with your mod, but wasn't sure so I just mentioned it. I guess its the different ratios playing a trick on me. Not used to it. Need more practice I guess :)
I'm gonna do some tries in my test profile a bit with the 3 axl tanker or something heavy..
Awesome and well done mod.
Thanks for replying, very helpfull :)

Well I'm sure glad you like it :), I'm happy to share my little effort here and you're very welcome.

I hope one day we will have transmissions separated from the rear ends and we'll have the option to change differentials without having to have several dozen different transmission definitions, heh.

Yes that woult be nice. I never thought of it like that..
Speaking of gears and boxes and stuff, another thing fell into my head just now. What if the gearbox was automatic or manuell when you buy it?! Like the way you buy rims and engine. That would be a cool challenge to add realism.... maybe :)

Actually, yeah why not?

I would also like the shifter layout to be optionally defined at the gearbox level rather than as a purely profile level configuration. You really shouldn't have to go back to the menu and change your layout setting to suit different gearboxes, which becomes particularly annoying when doing Quickjobs. I mean, keep the profile level layout configuration as it is, but allow us to have a pointer in each gearbox that selects (as an over-ride to the menu selection) which layout file to use for that particular gearbox.

Is it possible to build a mod like that? Where in the Def is the transmission file? I'm not even sure where to look...

Not that I know of, it would require some parameter declarations and supporting code in the game proper and I'm sure that if SCS already had that in place they'd have been using it themselves :/

Transmissions are located at:
/def/vehicle/truck/<truckname>/transmission

At least my vote go for gearbox man/auto in the truck workshop.
Thanks for finding the folder for me and Happy Heavy Haulin :)
