Animated Interaction

Refining the interaction for improved realism and situational awareness
One question though, about the cable thing. If you are interacting with a panel, that has a display on it, why would you look at your wrist, why wouldn't you just interact with the panel? And if you did use your wrist screen because it has better resolution or what ever reason, why wouldn't it just intereact wirelessly with the panel you interacted with, why the need for a cable? Especially if it affects performance of the game. Why not just eliminate that feature? I vote for the just interact with the device panel as I often set the camera view so that I can interect with it and see what's going on behind the overlay, but if he looks at his wrist then I can no longer see what I wanted to see in the background. I also do this when I'm controlling a drone or something directly from my suit and need a certain view, so rather than his head moving down to look at his wrist, why not have his wrist move up or where ever so you can still see where you were looking but now your wrist is up in the bottom left of your view rather than your head is down. So move the wrist display to where every the character is looking rather than moving his head down to the wrist display. Just a question/suggestion. Othewise amazing job.

I correct myself. I spoke too soon. Character does not move his head down to his wrist as you of course know since you made it. Sorry for assuming that. So this does not change the view I set, which is good. Thanks it looks really cool. Also he does the animation while sitting in cockpits and flight seats.

The cable is an indicator for other players so they see what you're interacting with.

And yes it does that in seats too because, again, indicator for other players that you're not actually flying the ship but are in menus.

But come to think of it, I could make the player just press stuff in the cockpit but that may or may not be accurate to the cockpit you're in xD

If the cable gives you issues you can lower the resolution and/or make it a sprite (which I just remembered has some planet skybox issue, I'll note it in the description).

I could also add a setting to completely remove cables if they really bother you :P

Thant makes sense to show other players. I hadn't thought of that. Can you just animate his hands to punch the keypad on the refinery for example like you suggested in the cockpits? And when he isn't doing anything but is still in the menu his hand could just be up close to the panel as though he is about to use it and this would do the same as the cable. This would show you are interacting with the panel similarly to the cable. I think it is a minor issue if the hands don't line up with stuff in the cockpit or on a panel. It shows your doing something and cockpits are likely to change anyways.

How do you connect a cable in the moddle of a screen??

I just hit k and that's what it did...

I think it would look better if you had the character useing the pannel on the cargo container instead of having a cable connected to the cargo container.

Little bug note, when you are scavanging your body after dying, the body still animates the cable plug in instead of your new body...creepy

Random thoughts: To me, the cable seems more like it should be a safety line. It should have some kind of magnetic base thingy at the end if it is. It seems weird for it to connect to conveyor ports in general, but even weirder to connect to blocks while standing in gravity with the jetpack off. Being a data interface, maybe it should target the keypad instead of the conveyor? Maybe a safety line that works and has a built in winch should be it's own mod. It certianly would make ship capture more interesting than flying damperless once in range. It would make more sense to have the player doing some keypad animation when close to a block, but then looking at the wrist panel when in internal inventory or remote controlled menus. A seperate animation for consoles like PB or the large screen'd interior cockpit seats would likewise be more imersive. A random punch or kick at a refinery/assembler would be neat as well.

It just connects to whatever you aim at and checks for physical hits and if that fails it just connects to the center of the block... and that's all the information I can get, I don't know of any way to get the dummy positions on blocks.

Could add an option to use a hand animation instead of a cable, and/or an option to use some other indicator instead of a cable, such as a ghost beam representing a whifi signal between character and panel. The rational for the beam, is that its being displayed on the other player's hud as they are looking at the player interacting with the panel?

I agree with the others about the cable. Your mod is great, but this cable seems completely out of age and doesn't make much sense since our astronaut could at least have bluetooth, couldn't he ?? ;p
I believe you could just do an animation with the astonaut typing things in front of him, and then the player has to go RP and must aim at the control panel so it's realistic.

I think the cable makes sense because it's like how the US's nuclear missiles are still controled by tape driven computers. It's about the security of the information not the ease of use.

Wireless is all well and good until somebody starts packet sniffing. You're inviting a nightmare of security issues by not using a cable. On top of that, just imagine how much electromagnetic interference from either space or machinery could interfere with your signal. And now, imagine how much electromag a wireless system would put out. If stealth is a concern, you really don't want wifi broadcasting your position.

TL;DR, cable is good because we're Space Engineers, not faggy millennials that ♥♥♥♥♥ because they have to plug in an aux cord.

10/10 Mod, btw.
