Custom tracks:
Hi, if you wanted to add your own soundtracks, here's what you need to do:

1. Grab either UDK 3 (https://udn.epicgames.com/Three/WebHome.html) or the XCOM 2 SDK.
2. Edit your own sounds. I recommend cutting them down to 10-20 second long clips because otherwise they can be a strain on the system. UDK will take 16 bit .wav files. Add fadeins and outs to the start and end.
3. In UDK/XDK assemble them into Sound Cues (https://udn.epicgames.com/Three/SoundCueEditorUserGuide.html) and save it as an unreal package. something.upk
4. In the mod directory ( \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\653926741\Config ) edit the XComSOSkyranger.ini. After a bunch of similar lines, add your own soundcue description:

.RangerSong="SoundCue'Mycustomsongpackage.Mycustomsoundcue'"
.Songlist="My Jams"
5. You're good to go!

Thank you for this!

What software did you use to create and edit the tracks themselves? How were you able to trim them down and add in the fade ins and outs?

I used Audacity to edit the tracks. Pretty easy to use.

I have heard a lot of good things about that application, just never used it myself. Noted and thank you.

Alright, got it working. Thank you for answering all of my very basic questions. I am still quite new at all of this, when it comes to modding. This should be my FINAL question, and I am asking mainly because it is late and I am too tired to test back and forth at the moment. The songs turned out a bit quiet, which I had a feeling they would. Is it possible to alter the volume of the song in the UDK editor itself? Or do I have to go back and increase the volume in Audacity? Part three of that would be, assuming both are possible, which is easier/faster?

Edit in audacity and use the normalize filter.

OKAY I have a question. Can you use XDK to assemble sound cues? Because there is no option, no feature, no UI to assemble .wav into sound cues with XDK. This is very misleading to say that you can, because there is no option, and every guide about Sound Cues I see uses the UDK sound cue editor for it. Is this really the case and you just forgot to mention that? Because this one 5-second mistake of yours just wasted me 10-20 hours of time experimenting and I'm getting pretty pissed with this development kit.

Its been over a year since I did this but several people have added their own custom tracks successfully. The XDK is just a rebranded UDK its got all the same components. The Dev kit is horrible though which is why I dont mod anymore
