Non Flyers
Is it possible that one day you will develop a similar mod, or add to this mod the ability to put a post or flag down for land animals.

Specifically I am interested in a post with similar functionality, placing a collar say on the costume slot, that makes it so that whenever a land dinosaur within X range of the post leaves combat, it attempts to return to the post.

My reasoning for this is that it would allow people to arrange guard dogs at their base. You could set the collar to a particular post.

This would be doubly awesome if you could do it with Dimorphodons.

Even if this was only possible with things Raptor Size or smaller it would be quite cool and since it would not be using the regular follow system, whistling all stop at your base will not ruin all your guard posts.

Sorry if my question/request is erratic or already answered in your suggestion page, i read through it a ways and did not see a mention to it.

The biggest problem with anything other than flyers is pathfinding and handling collision avoidance. ARK doesn't have a pathfinding system, they could use NavMesh but elected not to, I'm guessing for performance reasons, so attempting anything similar for land or sea based dinos would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible.

That said, I am planning on looking at a voxel based collision avoidance for Homing Pigeon, if I can get this working as intended, then there may be some potential for applications to land and sea based dinos.

What if the range was sufficiently small? I would love to be able to set up a ring of posts, and set the dino to patrol from one to the other, in sequence, making loops around my base. If the max distance between posts is small enough, we could control the collision issue ourselves by routing the path between posts to avoid stuff..

And when the dino inevitably engages something and ends up in a situation where it cannot path find back to a post? Not something I would want to deal with.

Perhaps an idea for another mod. I have no plans to implement this as it is out of scope for the purpose of this mod.

what about doing it as a teleport. Last night I had taken one of my mutated breeders out to level up and an alfa raptor came out of no whwere and attacked us. I jumped off to agro it on me (plus my sword does 1k dmg) but if I had died, it would have been cool to just have my raptor teleport to me. You could even put it on a time delay for "travel time"
Another cool thing would be if you had the animal on attack my target, or aggressive it would switch to neutral if you die.

All good ideas, but I feel quite strongly about the design direction for this mod and so these requests are out of the scope of what this mod is designed to do.

II'm not a fan of teleporting, feels cheap and unbalanced, which is why so much effort has been put into making Homing Pigeon as realistic as possible, ie: physically flying the flyer between two points.

I am closing this thread now as I have answered the original author's question. Support for land dinos and sea dinos is not something I will be adding to Homing Pigeon.
