Troubleshooting
One or more Homing Pigeon features aren't working.

Cause
There are a number of things can result in Homing Pigeon features not working as expected; changes to the core ARK game, a bad update/installation of the mod, a mismatch between a new install and an old install, a programming mistake introduced by the mod author etc...

Solution
Before taking any action, first carefully read the the Bugs Thread to see if the issue you are experiencing has been reported and confirmed as a bug. If it has already been reported and verified as a bug, follow the workaround steps listed for that bug.

If the problem you are experiencing is not a known bug, or cannot be reproduced by the mod author you can try the following steps in order as listed below.

Warning: these steps are destructive and are only intended to be used as a last resort. You will need to rebuild all Homing Pigeon structures.

  1. Stop the server and your client. Quit the Steam application if it is running.
  2. Delete the mod folder '655261420' from both the server and your client.
  3. Re-install the mod on both the server and client.
  4. Restart the server and your client and wait for the mod to finishing installation before connecting to the server.
  5. Destroy all old Homing Pigeon structures using the following commands:
    1. cheat DestroyAll HomingPigeonFlag_SM_Single_C
    2. cheat DestroyAll HomingPigeonMailbox_SM_Single_C
    3. cheat DestroyAll HomingPigeonFlag_SM_Public_C
  6. Unequip any existing Homing Pigeon Leg Rings from flyers. Discard the removed Leg Rings.
  7. Craft/spawn new Homing Pigeon Leg Rings and equip to flyers.

Note: If you use FTP upload to update your mods on a dedicated server, ensure that ARK is running before transferring the files, because ARK can only copy the files to where it needs to while it is running.

My game crashes / auto disconnects when I go near a Homing Pigeon Flag, or use the Homing Pigeon Leg Ring or Homing Pigeon Menu

Cause
The mod has been incorrectly installed on the server, or a file was corrupted during an update.

Solution
Follow the steps below to resolve:

  1. Delete the mod folder (655261420) from the server.
  2. Re-download the mod, install and activate.

Note: If you use FTP upload to update your mods on a dedicated server, ensure that ARK is running before transferring the files, because ARK can only copy the files to where it needs to while it is running.

I cannot place any structures! I get the green ghost structure but when I click, nothing happens

Cause
One or more of your mods has not been correctly updated, and is causing all other mods to become unstable as well.

Solution
Update the mod responsible (if known), or all mods. If the problem persists, try following the steps for the game crash issue above ^^.

My server is not visible in the lobby to join, but the server is running

Cause
One or more of your mods in out of date, causing a mod version mis-match between the client and the sever.

Solution
Update the out-of-date mods on your server to the newest version. If you are unsure which mods are out-of-date, update all the mods on your server. When all mods are up to date, your server will be visible in the lobby for players to join.

My Steam Library Folder is not writable (Missing File Privileges)

Cause
This problem is not an issue with this mod or any other mod, the problem is an issue with the permissions of your PC's filesystem.

In some cases (depending on your system) the problem occurs when an Intel driver (igfxEM Module) denies access to certain folders on your file system (see this discussion thread[communities.intel.com])

Solution

A solution for this problem is largely dependent on your system configuration. Below are some suggestions to try. If none of these work, then you will need to contact the technical support team of your PC manufacturer or start Googling the problem.

  • If you are running an Intel system, kill igfxEM Intel module:
Open Task Manager > Running Processes. Look for the igfxEM Module, click to highlight it then click end process.
  • Repair your System Registry entry for Steam.
  • Re-install Steam.
