I've had this happen to me as well, I know the feeling. Unfortunately, it's because Madagascar, just like all the other map mods, doesn't create it's own subfolder for saving your game data... instead, it adds it to the same folder as your default folder for The Island (\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal)... and your character profile for the Island was deleted when you created a new character profile for Madagascar. ARK doesn't create separate character profiles for each Map (as it should) like it does for game data for each Map, (i.e. TheIsland.ark, madagascar_evolved.ark, ShigoIslands.ark, etc.) so you have to get creative and do it yourself. Do what I do and create backup folders, one for each map mod you use, and backup all the game data at the end of every game session. If you want to create a new character for a new map, make sure the default folder is backed up and emptied before starting a new game. Kind of a hassle, but once you get into the habit, it doesn't take too long and ensures no more heartache like you just experienced. Hope that helps.
