Engine Troubles / Questions
First I want to say, I love the truck, very well modelled inside and out. But I noticed with either of the 400 HP Cummins engines, it will not rev over 1700 RPM, making it impossible to pull trailers. The 300, 335 and 350 all rev fine, but are EXTREMELY underpowered. The truck struggles to hit 50 mph on flat ground with a bigger trailer, regardless of which transmission is used. The 5.29 Eaton is bearable, but understandably has a very low top speed. I am still only a level 11, so maybe a bigger, yet to be unlocked engine would resolve the issue. Just curious if anyone else had noticed this problem with the 400s.

Thanks again, keep up the great work

definitely noticed this when i chose the 400 formula, no way in hell it will rev past 1900. while i havent found it impossible to pull trailers its definetely makes the engine underpowered for what it should be. i havent tried any of the other engines. however i found the eaton fuller 13 speed works the best with this truck, maybe this is why its not so hard for me to pull trailers. but love the truck but engines need some work and im considering switching to the volvo truck mod instead. the top speed just isnt what it should be and there seems to be no engine transmission combination to fix that

The formula engines are governed at 1900rpm with a high torque rise (for the time) irl. They're meant to be paired with a 'fast' rear end, in the mid 3's in order to cruise at 55mph in top gear. The next update has real world torque curves and adjusted auto trans rev ranges, so that should at least settle whether it drives realistically or not.

If you're pushing your GCW or doing a lot of hills at a low level, you're much better off with a non-formula NTC with an RT 8LL through 4.44 or so. That gives you ~55mph in 8th at a decent rev range iirc.

Otherwise bear in mind that the spec options vs levels are meant to be challenging, but period-appropriate. Trailers were commonly 45ft or shorter at the time, torque was limited, and that was just as well because the transmissions of the day weren't rated much higher than 1000 lbf-ft. Even some of today's trucks' powertrains limit their GCW and gradability.

Really appreciate the answer and the advice. Will give it another try. Thank you again and really excellent work on the truck.
