Left 4 Dead 2

City of the Dead Classic
City of the Dead - Review by QueenAmethyst
9/10 stars!

Before I start the review I want to emphasize that in every area and at every corner I could tell the creator put a lot of effort into it. Be it hidden Gnomes, Portal 2 music or just lovely designed surroundings, he clearly worked with his heart!

The map itself it very balanced, we start in a building with small corridors and passageways - the atmosphere is dark and crowded which helps the player/s empathize with the survivors. It is a wonderfully planned opening-act to a fantastic campaign.

What I loved most about those areas is that no matter where I looked I found new details, like rooms that tell the story of fallen former survivors or just areas that are open to be explored like a hidden pool.

In other reviews I read that some players did not appreciate the winding pathways, but that was one of my favorite elements - it felt like a labyrinth or a puzzle the player/s have to escape from!
I understand that this is personal preference, but for me it added to my enjoyment.

I removed one star because one area, the store part with the many escalators, felt a little unfinished and a few times the graffitis on the walls felt a little repetitive.
These flaws are minimal in my opinion, especially if considered how fully fleshed out all the other areas are.

The finale was a fitting ending for a great campaign!

The play-through itself was very enjoyable, in particular I liked looking for all the hidden details. (Tip: Look for a passageway with red light and a "Danger" warning sign, you won't be disappointed!)

To sum it up - If you are looking for a fun map, with a lot of opportunities to explore and enjoy yourself, this is the map for you!
