Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2

City of the Dead Classic
Kyle's Review of "City of the Dead" - 3/5
Competent, but confusing. 3/5 stars.

City of the Dead has all the basic elements a Left 4 Dead campaign needs, and everything works as intended, but I think it feels inconsistent in execution. Some areas look good, some are lacking polish. My biggest issue is that the first 3 maps share fatal flaws: the levels are usually too dark, cramped, and maze-like. These traits aren't bad on their own, but combined, they're a sluggish trifecta that leads to aimless wandering.

To be honest, the main reason I gave this 3 stars is because I really liked the finale. The skybox looks weirdly empty, but the finale is still a rock solid chapter in an otherwise uneven campaign, and it was great to end on a high note. The tight level design actually works to the campaign's advantage in a holdout because it means zombies are always sneaking up on you, keeping things tense and fun.

Overall, City of the Dead is a coin flip, but I'm sure the upcoming remake will be much better, and I look forward to seeing it.

Hey there!

Thanks for the review, I agree with everything you said. I’m really hoping I can improve on the core design of the original map in the remake, and make it less confusing and more fun to play through!

I appreciate you taking the time to play and review the map.
