Infact, somebody should make a chinook mod which has a "Skycrane" effect inside of it in which if you drive a vehicle in, it will stay if you press alt
As for coloring, shades of different collors on the nose can never go bad. Let's say... Black for every model except the black one and white nose on it? Perhaps a red tint on the vertical rotor tips as well.
To make it easy to spot, I made an imgur album with the points I adressed here, hope it helps you: http://imgur.com/a/W0wgd. Note in the second image how fluid the fuselage is, almost like a cargo airplane's.
Edit: It seems that the gray "cap" already has a bit of volume. Well, you can stiff make it better by placing a thinner box in between the engine section and the cap.
