The Improved Combine NPCs mod has been added to the "Official Garry's Mod Repository", which means the add-on has been merged with Garry's Mod itself. Before the mod came out, the Combine in Gmod were basically stand, shoot, step into cover to reload, repeat. Now, they rely on squad tactics, tactical grenade use, energy balls, and communication from across the map. This is what the Improved Combine NPCs improved.

Combine Units +PLUS+ adds more Combine units, albeit much less canonical to HL2. Still really cool.

Yes, but there are a few features which would be removed. One example is metrocops with manhacks.

I wish we could set if metrocops could be set to have manhack or not

You could use the Improved Combine NPCs with the normal vanilla Combine NPCs. Since the August 2015 update incorporating the add-on into Gmod itself, the only difference between the two is that the improved version has a manhack on his back and the normal combine metrocop does not.

They don't even step into cover to reload, they just stand there and wail on you until they die.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a red shirt beneath all that armor.
