Automated Beam Drill

Drill stops, can't start again, bug?
I'm using the beam drill with the turret and it works like a charm but it suddenly stops and can't be turned back on.

-There is ore around and I tried moving around just in case.

-I have 20+ batteries and they are fully charged at the moment.

-The reactor can output 900MW and has over 100 Uranium bars in it.

-I tried lowering the range of the drill but nothing happened.

-I get the "No fuel" error when I try to start it and it's like all power shut off in my vehicle when I start the drill, not even antennas work, and in the information in batteries the "batteries will be empty in" just shows -- even though they are full. No power is being drawn from the reactor either, it just stays on 0 draw.

-I'm using a mod reactor but my friend had the same problem with vanilla reactors.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT; I think it is related to drawing more power than the reactor can supply.

The same thing happened to me, only I am on the planet with the atmosphere and powered by the reactor with a power output of 6 GW + 12 batteries, and the same thing first drills but after about 5 minutes everything is cut down and the ship is de-energized but shows that the energy is still for 12 days but everything is red .

I have the same issue here. I don't know how to fix it.

It's a power supply issue. On longer beams, the power consumption goes up wildly. If there's not enough power, the beam cannot start. The power system will show the massive potential load that can't be filled. The beam, unlike thrusters, is either ON or not, where thrusters are able to kinda stutter about with reduced effectiveness.

Doesn't really explain why the drill can't be started again even after you reduce the range though.

any solutions yet to this issue? im having the exact same thing happening.

Not as far as I know, what I did was check how much the energy drain was at different depths and limited the depth so the drain wouldn't exceed my reactor output. That seems to help at least, otherwise I have to restart the game to be able to turn the drill back on if it suddenly shuts down. :/

thanks, any info to improve or delay to error is appreciated

I too have been getting this error. Additionally once one drill on any given grid experiences this, it causes the error fleet wide. Also, more specifically the no fuel error is what the game says when the power grid of a ship is overloaded. What is happening is even when mining at point blank range, the power draw exceeds the maximum of the grid and the drills shut down.

Same thing is happening on my miner in survival, it works after a reload but soon after that it stops working and the powerdrain overloads the powergrid. After which it won't work again until reload.

Range settings have no effect. no matter how many reactors I put on this thing it will never be able to cover the powerdrain when this bug occurs.

i started using the cold fusion reactors from the GSF energy weapons pack. 1 of those will power 4 drills at maximum range. there are a few glitches at work that cause the drills to mine into infinity, and have equivalent power draws. That said, use the turrets with an ore detector.

This bug still exists.

Damn that sucks

The only time I see this is when it has shut down due to lack of power from the ship. Each time, it took several minutes for everything to come back to normal. If you install an lcd and use scripts to monitor your power it will help you figure out whats up. I would suggest going to creative mode, build a base for the lase with an insane amount of power and start there, where you KNOW you have enough power, then start lowering power and see where it takes you.
