Suggestion
I had an idea that I think would make the beam drill really helpful in underground construction. A special type of beacon block that you place 8 of to create a cube to drill out (likely in spectator mode) and then the beam drill removes all voxels inside the box you created.

I get what you are saying, but how would you place those 8 blocks?
What I'll do is add a max range to the drill, so you can just drill out a certain radius.

In a cube, I dont know code so I honestly dont know if the code is there but if you could link the blocks somehow it would create a box that could be a target for the drill. would also help is you made the beam device on its own without the turret wide enough to overlap if you place them next to each other.

Could I suggest another turret that doesn't drill or require the beam drill, but instead fetches the coordinates of detected ores? That way we can survey for ores as well

And these 8 blocks would be attached to what?

My idea would be another drill addon that would half the mining rate but dubble the width of the mining cone that way a ship could slowly bore a larger tube in the rock. Worm MIners Away.

Not sure how I can possibly turn off all "Detect Station" options on sensors with pirate bases n' such. Does the world need to be a blank slate or ?

maybe a smaller alot weaker hand tool version but better than the drill you get one that has a 1-2 meter range
