Battle Replay Desyncs Clarification - see IlluminatiRex's answer if you experience this issue
EDIT: This was originally a bug report post before it was clarified for me. I was going to delete this since it's resolved and not really a bug with the mod, more the game, but I'll leave it here for future reference in case anyone else runs into the same symptoms and doesn't know what's causing it, since IlluminatiRex cleared it up below :)

Changed the title though to prevent scaring people off with the word 'Bug' showing up on the main page.

You probably already know this, but this mod breaks battle replays (ones from prior to having the mod installed - presumably this works both ways).

This may be an expected and unavoidable result of the very slightly larger units? I'm not sure how the replays are saved but I imagine it's through vectors or something for movement combined with precise timing for when attack orders are given? Regardless, the most blatant effect is that it generally means the outcome of recorded battles is totally different, probably because all the small 'mistakes' get compounded by later ones and then my units end up just being stupid by the end (e.g. being in the wrong position to fulfil the later order correctly).

Obviously this means the mod isn't 100% aesthetic (which I wasn't clear on before this, thought they might just be a fake visual replacement for a normal troop with all the normal behaviours), but that's not a major issue if it's only a small difference in unit movement caused by different than expected unit sizes (and correspondingly different unit rotation speed etc) adding up over time in replays to cause the difference. I'm slightly concerned that a single extra soldier, even of exactly the same stats as the other, adds much more value to a small very elite unit (like knights) than a large cheap one but it's nothing worth grumbling over next to what you've added here :)

Anyway, if the 'problem' does purely affect the accuracy of replays and can't be fixed or worked around (which I'd guess it can't with current tools from the little I know?) it might be a good idea to just put it as a 'Known Issue' on the description page to prevent people getting frustrated or confused about what's causing their old replays to not work right :)

Love the mod, thanks for all the hard work :D

Total War replays have Desynch issues for a lot of people - even if they're running a vanilla version of the game.

I haven't had any issues with my replays - they have played out exactly the same. But I have friends who, even with no mods, have their replays turn out extremely different.

Huh, must be a weird combination of things that causes it then, because for me turning the mod on and off seems to reliably cause or fix these desyncs (sorry didn't know the term before so wasn't aware it was a common problem) on older replays :)

Wonder if enabling another mod at the same time might fix it again :P

Thanks for answering and thanks again for the great mod :)

Yeah, in your case the mod might be the cause of the Desynchs. It definitely does vary from person to person and computer to computer. It's such an odd issue that CA has never really seemed to get around to fixing :P

No problem man!
