- Due to the white cheeks and the ressemblance of a snake head on the bow (front) of the ship, the name Cottonmouth instantly came to me. Thus the ship was named Cottonmouth.

- Cottonmouths reside mainly in the southeastern United States. This includes very southern Virginia to Florida and east to eastern Texas.

- Common names include variants on water moccasin, swamp moccasin, black moccasin, cottonmouth, gapper, or simply viper.

-Many of the common names refer to the threat display, where this species will often stand its ground and gape at an intruder, exposing the white lining of its mouth.

And this is how the ship got its name!!!
