NEW EM TYPE!: Space Pirates
Current WIP for new EM (Special thanks to SwagWeedEveryYear for tossing out an idea) :

Space Pirates!

Requirements: No Fanatical Ethic requirement, can only have first tier ethics.

Background: As a Space Pirate you and your people have been more at home in space than you have ever been on a planet. While your motley crew understands the necessities of habitating high mineral density planets, none of them appreciate or like the idea. The unbounded stretches of space is where your people belong, and you seek to grant them that very comfort by making sure your people can spread their wings freely in the galaxy. Other Races have branded you pirates for your fleeting ways and lack of a stable environment, a name that your people embrace and have taken for their own.

Style of Play:

~Extremely low migration times, low cost
~Focus on Kinetic weaponry, lack of energy weapon proficiency
~High base armor, low armor multiplier
~High base hull, low shield multiplier
~Medium Evasion
~Extremely Low planet habiltality, Extreme space border expansion
~Lowered cost on small ships i.e corvette destroyer, higher cost on larger ships i.e. battleship
~Extremely low cost on military stations, higher cost on fortresses
~No damage on Emergency FTL, slightly faster ship speed out of combat and in combat
~slightly lower accuracy
~Constantly misunderstood

What is meant by Extremely low planet habitality? Does it mean all worlds that are not the same of homeworld pretty much out?

it would be very hard to colonize (although possible) the next tier below too. At least for the numbers I'm looking at using.

So i just started a new game with these guys. The 150% border extrustion is just bonkers, i love it. Having like 6 x the land every else has in the year 2217 and the AI cant do ANYTHING about it if i close my borders, theyre completely strangled and cut off. Well its not that extreme, im only barely surrounding 2 other empires, but the guys on the edge, they cant expand inwards into me. Im also only controlling 2 planets atm as well, i cant imagine just how much land ill gain taking over the neighbours early.

I know why (-70% energy and minerals, go mine all the planets in ur new borders to sustain yourselves) youve given them so much land to work with, but i think its a bit too much, i cant even imagine how much land ill get with the first 2 20% border upgrades, then the 10 repeating.

I think nerfing the extrusion to like 100% or something and buffing their mineral/energy output in comparison would be good.

Im liking how they feel in combat, good armor, good evasion, good health, generally a good all-rounder. Makes you go for the long range kinetic option, breaks up the tachyon lance monotony which is nice.

Habitability is not a issue for me, since the mods im using, my bad im such a poor tester lol. I use the "Tiered Traits" mod and another that gives me a total of 6 trait picks to choose from. Im also using the "Expanded Habitibility" mod as well.

I'll keep this save going til later in the game, but I feel like space pirates can go toe-to-toe with any of the EM's, ill see if thats actually the case tho.

- I think my numbers are slightly broken here. https://imgur.com/a/g4LfE . 10% to cruiser build speed, 300 to battleships -20 to corvettes, ect, it just seems a bit all over the place and im getting no cost reduction on small ships.

All in all, I like em, a really nice addition to a already great mod, good work :D. I didnt think id like them that much for some reason, but ive changed my mind , theyre pretty great. Just need a few tweaks here and there is all.

Edit : 5 mins later, because i forgot something.

You say "constantly misunderstood". Does that even do anything at the moment? If not i think making a negative ai opinion modifier would be good.

And my final thought for now is, 100% emergency ftl damage. I dont think it should be 100%. Rift walkers have 100% and theyre the most technologically advanced in the galaxy. These are pirates. It should be pretty high, like around 60-80%, but i think full reduction is giving them a bit too much.

I ended up noticing border expansion was a bit too rapid as well so I've been looking at a rebalance. Right now I'm at 95% with -60% to minerals and energy, which is basically double size half minerals so it should equal out, and end up more powerful overall due to territory control which is really important.

Most of the upkeep and cost reductions are correct, but they do look a bit messy. The idea was fast/small ships get a cost reduction and as you move up the tiers of size they cost more and more to encourage small fast fleets to maneuver around the galaxy.

100% Emergency ftl damage is probably too much I agree.

Thanks for the feedback on the race, it helps a lot with smoothing out the kinks!

P.S. constantly misunderstood was indeed a placeholder for a negative ai relation modifier for trust growth (I just haven't looked up the line for trust yet)

The Patch rolling through in a couple minutes will be altering them and imperial legion a bit, with a few other tweaks here or there

tried this race out and I found what I think may be a bug... not sure though it may have been intrnded.

What I found is that though you get the -60% energy from planet production; This I totaly understand and accept as intended. However you also get a negative to the energy produced from stations..

I just started;so I only have 8 energy being minned by stations, and only reciving 3.2 of that. not that I can't work around that but if the intend of the EM was to have few planets but still maintain a large fleet, we need those stationsmaking up for all those crappy planets :steammocking:

I have not done the math on the minerals yet, but I am guessing it is the same.

One way to compisate this if it is intended, is perhaps to let the pirate EM raid others for energy amd minerals, or have enemies drop them and recive energy and minerals instead of research. come to think of it that may take to much coding... but still would be cool if possible

@The Gaming Goblin that would be awesome indeed! However that would take a rewrite of the game engine (Not something I am quite capable of just yet :P), and you are correct that does sound like a bug you should be producing full value from orbital mineral and energy stations. Only the planet tiles should be reduced energy. Can you take screenshots by chance? I'd like to see what it says exactly when you hover over the orbital energy station and over your total energy income/maintanence. Thanks for your cooperation!

Theres a mod that allows raiding wargoals, "More Technologies" , although its officially out of date Guilliman has updated it so it works with the latest version of stellaris. It also adds a whole other load of stuff too which i highly recommend.

if I did my math right, I should be getting 47 energy from my stations. I know that is not a lot. but over 50 years if I had full energy and minerals (yes minerals are doing the same), I belive my income would be MUCH higher. SO her is hopping you can fix it :)

Hmm, I'll see if I can recreate this. Are you using any mods that may alter this at all? I don't doubt it's my mod, it just doesn't make sense looking at it o_o

This is the current modifiers for space pirates, nothing indicates a reduction in energy for stations.

I do use other mods but I don't think any of them would mess with yours. but I will give you the list of my active ones so you can mayby try them and see if it's one of them. if it is I will stop using that one. I like yours :steammocking: give me a couple min
