How the hell am I supposed to do this?! There's literally not enough time to make yourself the Japanese equal, or even to bring your EXISTING units to fighting strength, much less make news ones!
>play vanilla
But apparently, interesting translates to, "How the hell do you people do this? Is there a secret, are you all geniuses, or am I just literally dumb as a rock?"
I'll give the rest a try, even though I utterly despisse Mass Mob as a doctrine. Until now I've been trying to focus on my industry, given that arty's no good with nothing to build it. Thank for the tips!
Also, if you become democratic, you can choose to get Hu Shih as president and the China Democratic League ruling, or keep Chiang but turn the KMT democratic. It's pretty funny.
For your coast garrison, build a cheap infantry division of 4 inf and engineers, as well as support artillery if you can get it. If a port's being repeatedly attacked and if the AI targets it frequently, build a coastal forts up to Level 3. Xiamen, for example, gets hit a lot.
Some players also choose to rush Manchukuo, but if Japan joins the war against the Soviets, let the Russians handle Manchukuo. They'll take care of it in good time.
Oh, and because of the Japan civil war mechanic, don't invade Korea. If fascist Japan wins (which it rarely does), let the Allies handle invading, usually USA or UK.
As for commanders, I'd suggest using Sun Li-Jen, Tai An-Lan and Hseuh Yeuh for your main armies. For garrison, use Chiang, Du Yu-Ming and Wang Yao-Wu. Use Yan Xishan when attacking Mengkukuo, or the Mongol Military Government.
Be careful when retaking Nanjing-it tends to be heavily defended and Japan will not give it up without killing a few thousand of your men. Same goes for Shanghai.
DO NOT pay the PRC's army. Ever. If you do, Hyperinflation will start. It's a royal pain and the focus to end it-Monetary Reform-takes almost a year to finish.
For almost every other event, though, be nice. Help the Doolittle Raiders to return to USA if they crash land in your fields. Agree to the Maryland Conference terms. Battle famine every time. You can execute some of the warlords, but I'd recommend keeping Ma Bufang, Yan Xishan and Li Zongren. Feel free to kill off the rest.
Last one: Before starting a new playthrough, use the custom difficulty and slam China's strength WAY UP. It will help loads.
Once u beat the japanese, the focus tree feels waaay to op because i just freaking rolled over everyone.
I used the reserve to defend all harbours. And everything else i put on the Border. I conquered the Warlords, then i created bunkers on the front. I pushed intro this minor country next to the PCR but i failed cuz no bunkers. But they lost ton of ♥♥♥♥ just by attrition.
Start with industrial focus, military council (I don't remember the exact names) and internal stability national focuses.
Annex as many warlords (including the communist, Mao) as possible before the Sino-Japanese war, especially “Guang Xi” and “Guang Dong” as the resources there will be crucial to your manufacturing. Also, you will get tons of infantry equipment by annexing them or warlords joining you, which allows you to start training 5 - 8 divisions ("Zheng Shi Shi") at the same time. You will also get a fair amount of civilian factories, so you don't have to complain about only having 1 or 2 at the beginning. I left "Shan Dong" and "Xi Bei San Ma" because they have inferior factories and resources. Keep some of the warlord generals after annexing (probably half, execute the others) as you only have field martials. In addition, "Shan Dong" will help you defend the peninsula with a port. By now you should have a bunch of factories. As soon as the Sino-Japanese war begins, complete the focus "big rare plan" as it adds tons of factories for you.
Use your political power on infantry related stuff only, and then pile 900 or 1350 (not sure why it changes between 900 and 1350) to convert from "Corrupted economy" to any vanilla economies. (I used "War economy"). This is important.
Forget about infrastructure and oil refineries, focus on military and civilian factories. At least keep one research slot for industrial related stuff, as these researches and the number of factories you own will gradually remove the incomplete industrial debuff.
Use mountaineers as your core battalions of your division. "Zheng Shi Shi" is a good template for modifying as it contains only 6 infantry divisions. "Zheng Bian Shi" has 9 which is hard for you to supply and train. Put artillery as support company first because you don't have enough factories to manufacture them. When artilleries are piling up, you can switch artillery from support company to a battalion. Engineering company is a must because you will be defending most of the time during the Sino-Japanese war. Forget about tanks, navy, and aircraft during Sino-Japanese war. I am only building convoys at the beginning. U.S.S.R. will also give you equipment.
Put all your "Zheng Shi Shi" to the front lines. Use the warlords’ army (some warlords should join you after completing one of the focus under internal stability tree, most likely "Si Chuan" and "Yun Nan", and their divisions will be yours too) to defend your coast. At some point the Japanese will invade Shang Hai or south east, you will have some difficulty fighting them back but it's not impossible. Join the allies if possible. Get "Sinkiang" before they join the Comintern, but this is not that important as I declare war on USSR later.
"De Xie Shi" (literatly means "Germany equipment division") is well equipped, use them only at the most harsh fronts. Start manufacturing anti-air and anti-tank if you can as you lack air and armor.
I won the Sino-Japanese war sometime around 1939-1940 (I don't remember the exact time). You should be able to manufacture some aircraft and destroyer or subs at this time. Japan will join the Axis before the endo of the war and call the other Axis countries to this war. After the Sino-Japanese war, I then annex "Shan Dong", "Xi Bei San Ma", and "Tibet". In the meantime, I put my best divisions to the Soviet-German front (ask military access in USSR) to gain some "War participation". Then at some point, I pull back all my troops to declare war on USSR. The Allies will back you up. Now I am facing a Germany occupied USSR and going to conquer the world (at lease Europe and Asia first :P)
GL HF.
I reccomend not trying to conquer other states, since they spawn troops and factories if you go to war with them. I also reccomend not pushing against the Japanese at the border incident, this will make your puppet which controls Beijing go independent. This makes your northern front line smaller, as well as makes it so you're not in danger of losing supply and being encircled once your puppet capitulates.
Rush an ideology change ASAP, it gives you research slots as well as a way to get rid of your corrupted economy. Either the Allies or the Comintern will also start unloading lend leases at you once you change ideology. I also personally reccomend slowly building up to 15 civilian factories to use for construction, and then start building military factories. Also, if you manage to hold most of your land for roughly 5 years, Japan will get engulfed in a civil war, with the democratic side having a heavy advantage. This is your chance to push and rid your nation of the Japanese.
...You're not exactly helping here.
