Archived HVO Update notes
HVO Release 3 - July 24, 2016
Hello everyone! Here are the notes for the third update for HVO.

This week's update focuses on the first major additions to the French tank tree as well as a fix to the infamous resolution problem so that everyone may enjoy their nation's tech trees! I've had a bit less time to work on HVO this week than I'd hoped, but if all goes to plan I should be able to tie up loose ends next week. Now, on to the French!

National Tech Folders
Moved the national tech tree tabs to a second row directly below the normal tech tabs. This way they will always be on screen no matter what resolution you're playing at.

French Tanks Added
  • Somua S40 added as French Medium Tank available 1940. A modest improvement over the S35, the S40 enjoys higher soft and hard attack but armor and piercing remain the same.
  • SARL 42 added as French Medium Tank available 1941. A thoroughly average tank equipped with average armor and a decent 75mm cannon.
  • Char G1R added as final French Medium Tank available 1943. The Char G1R is a solid mass producible midwar tank possessing average armor and a good cannon capable of easily dispatching M4 Shermans, Panzer IVs or T-34's but falls short of combating most late war medium or heavy tanks. It isn't the best but it is far from the worst.

  • Char B1 ter added as French Heavy Tank available 1940. Well armored for its time though sorely lacking in piercing. The B1 ter is an all around improvement on the Char B1.
  • ARL-44 added as French Heavy Tank available 1943. Decently armored (armor roughly equivalent to a Panther II yet less than a Tiger II) but well armed with piercing just short of the M29.

  • AMX-13 added as French Light Tank available 1945 (this will be increased later to 1946 at least). This light tank has attitude, very lightly armored but incredibly well armed.
  • AMX-50/100 added as French MBT available 1945 (this will be increased later to at least 1946). Lightly armored for an MBT but incredible well armed and enjoying increased hard attack at the cost of slightly lower soft attack. It is also the cheapest of the MBTs at 25 production cost.

  • Somua SAu-40 added in 2 variants, one equipped with a 47mm SA 1937 and the other with a 75mm APX. They can be researched from the S35 and S40 respectively.
  • Theoretical tank destroyer based on the Char G1R added. Equipped with a 75mm SA 1944. I usually avoid adding completely theoretical vehicles but the alternative was to leave the French building the SAu-40 throughout the entire war which would be something of a death sentence.

French Tanks to be added in the future
  • AMX-38 light tank
  • Char Somua SM heavy tank.
  • ARL 1940 V939 40 Heavy Tank Destroyer
  • AMX-50 Foch Modern Tank destroyer
  • Possibly the AMX-50/120 Heavy Tank. This may or may not be added, I haven't decided yet.

Gaemplay
  • Panzer III L soft attack reduced from 19 to 18.
  • Panzer III H soft attack reduced from 19 to 18.
  • M15/42 soft attack reduced from 19 to 18.
  • Modest price reduction for M11/39, M13/40, M15/42, M16/43.
  • Minor gameplay and research date fixes I forgot to record for the update notes.

Note on compatibility with other mods. I did a bunch of research this week into compatibility with other mods and sadly it appears that it will not be possible to make HVO compatible with any mod that adds tech folders or mods that edit the nation starting files, SWE - Sweden .txt for example.

The next release will focus on adding the Japanese AI templates, a total re-evaluation of production cost for every tank, adding the remaining French tanks and AI tweaks for the French AI to keep their research on track. Also I am mostly done with the preparation for nation specific anti-tank and artillery additions, they will either be included in the next release or the release after. Onwards to glorious tank battles!

HVO Release 3 - July 15, 2016
Hello everyone! Here are the notes for the second update for HVO.

This week's update focuses on the addition of national tech folders, artillery changes and new AI templates. I'll also be adding nation specific anti-tank guns and possibly more in the future so expect to see a lot more than tanks in each nation's tech folder in the future.

National Tech Folders
Nation specific tech folders have been added for the US, UK, France, USSR, Germany, Italy and Japan.
This will also make room for adding new tanks and variants since tech trees will no longer compete for screen space.
That's right, no more having to scroll for half an hour to find the Japanese tech tree!

Motorized and Light Artillery
Added Motorized artillery for all nations. Truck Motorized Artillery is identical to normal artillery but it moves at the speed of motorized infantry.
Motorized Artillery Brigades required 36 artillery and 48 trucks to equip.

Light Artillery
Added Light Artillery for all nations. Light Artillery represents small caliber artillery used by amphibious, airborne and mountain units. It has lower soft attack than normal artillery but is air droppable and performs better in mountains, jungle and amphibious combat.
Light Artillery Brigades required 24 artillery to equip.

Gaemplay/Bug Fixes
  • Valentine VIII research year changed to 1942 (was 1943).
  • FCM-36 research year now 1938 (was 1936).
  • T-95 no longer requires the M-29 to research.
  • M3 Stuart Soft attack reduced from 18 to 16.
  • Type 2 Ke-To Soft attack reduced from 18 to 16.
  • VK1602 Leopard Hard Attack increased to 10, research year changed to 1942 (was 1941)
  • VK1602 Leopard build cost increased from 9 to 9.5.
  • T-50 Light Tank Soft Attack reduced from 18 to 17.
  • T-70 Light Tank Soft Attack reduced from 18 to 17.
  • Fixed a bug for the generic Medium Tank II/III, Light tank III and Modern Tank that prevented their tank destroyer, SP Artillery or SPAA variants from being researched.

Cosmetic
  • Fixed localization for the United States M40 Gun Motor Carriage. Its name now correctly displays.
  • Moved techs around their trees to make it easier to see what their research date is.

Historical AI Templates:
  • Added new historical templates for the following nations:
  • Soviet Union: 21 new templates.
  • France: 2 new templates. Tweaked all of their 1936 starting templates to be more historically accurate as well.
  • Added motorized artillery where appropriate to AI templates for the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
  • Added light artillery where appropriate to AI templates for the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. Marine, Mountain and Paratroop units just got a lot more artillery.

Research AI Tweaks:
  • Minor tweaks to improve mid-game AI tank research performance.

The next release will focus on finishing up the French Tank tree a couple surprises for the Italians, adding Japanese AI templates and more. On another note, my free time will be a bit constrained by real life over the next couple weeks but I'm going to try to find the time to start a mod sub-reddit for us all to discuss the mod and for you guys to make suggestions for the future! Onwards to glorious tank battles!

Historical Vehicle Overhaul Release 2
HVO Release 2 - July 10, 2016
Hello everyone! Here are the notes for the first update for HVO, I'll try to keep updates coming on a weekly or biweekly basis as often as my real life schedule allows me to.

This week's update fixes a few outstanding bugs but for the most part it focuses tweaking the AI to improve its performance and especially its understanding of the new tech tree. All major nations will be affected, especially the Soviets and United Kingdom. There are also several general AI changes to make it more aggressive but less suicidal. These changes are still being tested so expect further AI updates in next week's update.

Vehicles
  • Added the Panzer III L as a license production technology for Italy (requires Italy to be in a faction with Germany and Germany to have already researched the Panzer III H.)
  • Fixed typo on T95 Super Heavy tank stats (they were accidentally identical to the Maus). The T95 is now a Super Heavy Tank Destroyer as intended.
  • France no longer starts with the AMC-35 researched, if you want it you'll have to research it.
  • Tungsten cost for most early medium tanks reduced or removed.

Cosmetic
  • Adjusted the position of the Panzer III, Panzer III H, Panzer IV and Brummbär on the tech tree.

Historical AI Templates:
  • Added new historical templates for the following nations:
  • Germany: 12 new templates (for a total of 26)
  • United States: 7 new templates. (For a total of 18)
  • United Kingdom: 18 new templates.
  • Italy: 18 new Templates.

Research AI Tweaks:
  • Increased AI weighting for building Motorized, mechanized and armored forces.
  • Increased AI Anti-Tank Gun production after 1938.
  • Tweaked AI weightings based on Doctrine Branch. (Mobile Warfare, Grand Battle, Massed Assault.) To encourage more historical AI army composition.
  • Tweaked AI national research weightings to increase armor and artillery priority. General streamlining tweaks to make certain nations (Germany) wastes slightly less research time on fleets.
  • Tweaked AI research weighting for major nations to make them research important new tanks more rapidly. (T-34 Model 1940, KV-1, Somau-35, Crusader and many others.)
  • AI research logic fixes to prevent it from researching obsolete Tank destroyers instead of newer ones.
  • Fixed a hilarious error that cause the Soviet AI to research a new medium tank like T-34 Model 1941 and then revert to building T-28s instead.

General AI Tweaks
  • AI will now be more cautious with units at low organization or equipment (25% or lower) and more aggressive with units at 75% organization or higher.
  • Significantly increased AI planning speed.
  • Decreased amount of time the AI will continue assaults it is losing from 168 hours to 100 hours. This should reduce AI suicide attacks.
  • Changed AI weighting to limit the use of strategic movement. Should cut down on AI suicide redeployments in the face of advancing enemies.
  • Increased AI defense and attack weighting for taking victory points.
  • Increased AI defense weighting for ports.
  • Other various AI changes to improve performance.

That's it for today, next week's update will focus on moving armor tech tree into multiple sub-folders to make it easier to navigate. Further AI tweaks, new AI templates for the Soviet Union, France and Japan and more. After that I'll start working on finishing the French tank tree and adding new vehicles. Let me know what you think and carry on the glorious tank battles!

Thank you! As for the E75, I used the original game's E50 picture as a placeholder until I find a suitable copyright free or fair use E-75 illustration.

thats awesome, looking much neater. I am however having a little trouble seeing all the tags on my screen. At the moment i only see usa, uk and france with a small bit of the soviet union tank tree. Is there away to see the rest?

Hmm the tech trees should all be there. If possible post a screenshot and I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.

it seems that they are there but just not visable. I found in the options menu to reduce the size of the UI and that seems to of made them all show up at the cost of everythign else becoming smaller.
To see all the tabs the size is set to 0.8

I guess we know why the UI Scaling option says (Experimental) now! That is so strange though but at least it's a fix until we know what causes it.

will you have time to maybe make the air force historical aswell?
Edward The Black Prince  [developer] 16 Jul, 2016 @ 2:00pm
I'm starting to collect technical data to possibly do aircraft as well. I can't guarantee that I'll have the time to do it, but if I do then I defininately will. Though I'll be releasing nation specific anti-tank and artillery before I move onto aircraft.

I also added a quick description to every vehicle in the game so you can see its type, speed, armor (compared to other vehicles of the same year/type), firepower (also compared to other vehicles of the same year/type) and reliability at a glance. For example the Panzer IV G is: "Medium Tank, average speed, average armor, very good armament, good reliability."

The next release will focus on hard and soft attack tweaks for heavy tanks. I will also be conducting preliminary research for alliance based license production tech trees - I haven't settled on exactly how I want to do them yet, but I'll be experimenting with a few ideas. Onwards to glorious tank battles!
