Feedback about Hotline Miami 1.5
Hey guys!
I have hesitated a long time about opening or not a discussion about my campaign.

So i decided to create one (even if it might turn completely useless ^^") in order to collect your feedback about the levels, the story, well everything that could come to your mind actually, it will be easier for me to discuss with you guys that way.

I've red all the comments so far, but i didn't answer to a lot of them and this discussion will probably help.

Also if you have questions about the campaigns or the level editor don't hesitate!
But i won't answer all of the questions about the story because i don't want to spoile anything (unless it's a question about a misunderstanding on a dialogue for example, or if you think that my interpretation of a character is wrong).

I may also put some news about the next chapter (when it is going to be out for example) or upload links with the custom sprites.

So don't hesitate to write something! I'll check this discussion as often as possible.

I'd like to start off by saying this campaign actually is more enjoyable than parts of the actual game, the level design is great, with good looking environments and interesting enemy placement. the narrative with the different characters is interesting, considering I didn't know i would have liked a back story to the henchmen, it's cool that it work, among many many other things. The most interesting, and enjoyable Level Was 'Rub Out' in Ch 2, And the two levels that bothered me, were the first floor of Smuggler (ch1) and the Second floor of Hack n Slash (ch2). These floors did not have a lot of cover to weave in an around so i found myself dying frequently, when i tried to quickly complete the floors. It was frustrating. Those 2 instances were my only gripes, but considering there are 15 levels so far each with any number of floors, plus all the in between levels, i really enjoyed this campaign!

Hey Wolver! Thanks for your comments :) I really appreciate that.
Yeah i saw that a lot of people, like you, find that Smuggler and Hack'n'Slash are frustrating. Biker is a tricky caracter XD and i'll try to rework those levels in the near futur.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and I hope that the next chapters will be as good as the previous ones. ^^

I'm gonna post another message about Chap IV and the campaign in a few minutes.

Ok guys, i'm actually working on chapter IV.

It's much longer that i expected because i'm testing new things with the editor and
i'm trying to create something different. I'm also taking more time because i don't want to rush it.

This new chapter needs a ton of custom sprites and i'm not a really pixel master.
But it's in progress and this chapter will be out in the next weeks.
I'll do my best to release it before October, but this time i can't promess anything :/
(holydays are over \o/ )

But if it's not out in September it will sure be out in the first days of October.

Here's the state of chapter IV (cutscenes include custom sprites)

LEVEL 1 - Level almost done - dialogues DONE - cutscene almost done
LEVEL 2 - Level DONE - Dialogues DONE - cutscene almost done
LEVEL 3 - Level almost done - dialogues DONE - cutscene in progress
LEVEL 4 - Level in progress - dialogues DONE - cutscene in progress
BONUS LEVEL - Level in progress - dialogues DONE - cutscene not created yet

Nice! i hope the next episode will be great :steamhappy:
also the biker is a very tricky character indeed, i hope you could make the biker level in the next episode much like the third chapter's, where the difficulty stems from managing enemies and positioning instead of being caught out of cover often. oh and the non-linearity of the second floor, thats really good please make more of those yeah? :')
Karlson Peter  [developer] 11 Oct, 2016 @ 11:57pm
Hey Sea Raider!

I hope it will be great too ^^ it's really taking a lot of time but i'm starting to pull everything together.

I'll try to release more of those "non-linear" levels but they need to be really planned, I can't talk about next chapter because i really don't want to spoile it, but i'm trying to apply everything i learnt from the editor and your comments.

Chapter IV is kind of an experiment, i'm trying new things, new patherns, to make use of the editor's possibilities. So some of the futur levels could be a little tricky or frustating...

LEVEL 1 - Level DONE - dialogues DONE - cutscene DONE
LEVEL 2 - Level DONE - dialogues DONE - cutscene DONE
LEVEL 3 - Level DONE - dialogues DONE - cutscene DONE
LEVEL 4 - Level almost done - dialogues DONE - cutscene almost done
BONUS LEVEL - Level almost done (still experimenting on it) - dialogues DONE - cutscene in progress

Ok everyone, i know it's been two months since chapter III was released. I just wanted to tell you that chapter IV will be released in a few days ! (about time!)

I still have to draw some custom sprites, J and I are gonna review all the dialogues to make sure that there is no mistake. And everything should be ok!

Thanks again for your patience!

Hotline miami 1.5 is not over yet !!! :)
Vengeance 25 Nov, 2016 @ 4:55pm
Gave the level editor a try now that they released it, checked the first part of your campaign, and its pretty damn awesome! The level design is more reminiscent to the original HM, and had a pretty similair flow to it. And it's good to see a fellow Vice City fan out there ;D, Great job!
Karlson Peter  [developer] 7 Dec, 2016 @ 9:49am
Hey Vengeance ! I really tried to make levels that look like the first hotline miami. Vice city is my favourite game so far (I could talk about the soundtracks for hours ...) so i couldn't resist ^^.

I got some news about the next chapter guys!

The good new is that I've finished to write it, so i'm starting to create the levels and the cutscenes (gotta do a lot of test but i know where each level will take place, the "play-style" of the level etc...)

The bad new is that it requires a lot of custom sprites so it might slow down everything.

Anyway I think I can manage to release the next chapter on the beginning of January.

LEVEL 1 - Level in progress - dialogues DONE - cutscene DONE
LEVEL 2 - Level in progress - dialogues DONE - cutscene in progress
LEVEL 3 - Level not created yet - dialogues DONE - cutscene in progress
LEVEL 4 - Level not created yet - dialogues in progress - cutscene not created yet
BONUS LEVEL - Level not created yet - dialogues in progress - cutscene not created yet

Custom Spirtes : 25% (i'd say)
