Balance Discussion
Hey there!

So this mod has a long way to go before it is balanced fully, and I want to open a dialogue in order to best decide what can be done. So feel free to post here!

I'm just kick this off with a balance change that will be coming soon.

I've noticed that some of the press laws are a bit more attractive than others. Not to call any of them out (Productive), but I am going to be tweaking them today.

I am presently thinking a PP cost increase for all, a switch from a flat production bonus to production efficiency gain for Productive, and to add another bonus to Nationalism.

Hi i was just wondering how you managed to get the custom recruitment law pictures in to the game, couldnt find them in your GFX folder? thx a lot man

Unless something weird happened between this build and the last, they have always been in the GFX folder.

I do want to keep this thread on topic though. I will create a thread for general discussion and questions

The female policy is the most broken. With no downside it's either a massive population boost or a massive factory boost. It should have a downside or be difficult to get. I was thinking increase the cost to change it even further and perhaps a -5% National Unity as old traditions are abandoned, upsetting a portion of the population.

When I first started working on indie games and mod projects, one of the most common things I would shout is that cost is not a powerful enough balancing factor.

I'm surprised I havent been shouting that as much when I started working on this.

I plan on adding debuffs to Women's Auxillary through Egalitarianism in today's build

It's more of a bandaid than a cast. It can work as a basic change and doesn't require the amount of effort and programming creating new systems within the engine would such as event chains.

My primary concern is that some of the current manpower boosts are way too strong in their current state. Like Call for Volunteers. 2% for 25 PP. Damn, girl.

Egalitarianism is an example of something I think is nearing fair. Considerable cost, huge reward.

Mixing additional negative maluses in that aren't cost-related is hard in the current framework of the game, but in the future I think it'd be cool to see political power cost entirely removed from these bonuses and instead attach ideas solely to conditions met (some steep, some not). Not sure if original tag conditions work with these, but this project could evolve to country-specific ideas based heavily on historical events (and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ more work, obviously).

Your work looks promising and I'll be keeping tabs on future updates.

We have extended plans for what comes after cabinets. I can't speak on them right now as they are so early in conceptualization, but they will add some new things beyond PP for laws.

the pp boost for all countries is just to big as it is. Especialy for countries like USA and France who start with a negative modifier.
What every countrie does with this pp is just get the ministers and compagnies a bit faster and after that the recruitment laws so i think that needs some changing.

The initial 150 PP and the minor PP bonuses granted through some of the new laws were designed to help a player spend less time getting to the government they want and more time playing as it.

Now that the AI is (partially) finished. I can effectively explore the balance implications of such a move on the AI.

Initially I am not as concerned as this bonus extends to all countries, but we shall see how that plays out.

you give it to all countries that's correct but for countries who start with 0 pp per turn and 0.2 per turn it's a huge difference then for other countries who get 1 or even 2 per turn in vanilla.
Even though i think that's a minor downside i still have to say great mod and keep it up. Did 2 small mp's with it and from what i've gathered everyone liked/loved the mod.

I think 'free press' should be nerfed. U.K. or U.S has electronics research bonues. Despite of ahead time, these two countries can research in 1938 using Electronics Company. Especially U.K has -5% research time bonus and Jet Technlogy research bonuses. So U.K can produce Jet Fighter II in 1942 or 1943. Ahead time penalty is not added in research bonus, It is just multiplied.
For example, Vanila electronics research bonus is 20%(including Atomic) + free trade 10% + free press 10% + Company 10 % (can be applied) + (5% U.K. national focus). So if the Country have 50% research bonus, research can be only 1 day.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the Soviet Union and PRC allowed women in the army (there weren't many of them, but still) from at least 1936 onwards. For instance, there was a womens' division in the Peoples' Liberation Army as far back as the Long March, Mao's wife was a soldier, and women were regularly depicted as soldiers in propaganda. The Stalin constitution guaranteed legal equality for women in almost all areas of work, including military service. We also have examples like Lyudmila Pavlichenko. I haven't played the mod yet so I'm going off the pictures, so sorry if this has already been fixed.

Free Press is probably going down to 5% and Women laws are being re-worked next patch.
