Report a translation problem
I reloaded an earlier save to test the bug, and after the mission progresses to where you get given the science ship it spawns without any pilot (hologram or otherwise) and you are unable to assign any other scientist to the ship, effectively locking any further progress. So the bug is reproduceable on the most recent version of Stellaris.
i'll have to test it on my end. not sure what could be broken there, as nothing about the script has changed.
can you give me more info on your empire? the ethics would be of interest.
