Frackin' Universe
Frackin Universe: A Review
So, after like...years? Years of playing Frackin, I think I have a kind of like...review? I'll call it a review for it, going over different aspects of the mod and what it tries to do.

Progression
I quite like the new progression the mod adds, with having different equipment sets for different specializations, races being better suited to certain weapon types, it makes every playthrough more unique than vanilla. Definitely a positive

Racial Traits
To go more into said races, each one getting certain buffs and debuffs to make each unique has encouraged me to try a lot more races than I usually would, especially other modded races. It also is nice for something I particular enjoy, roleplaying a character. I don't know how many others do that but, when I play this game, I like to get into the mindset of whatever character I'm playing. Make a backstory, personality, stuff like that. The Racial Traits help a lot to get me ever more immersed as the character.

Research
A neat idea, though personally I think it has a lot of work that could be done. For one, I don't think 'research points' are neccesary. A better solution would have just been to require more basic items to unlock the research. For instance, requiring 20 pieces of iron ore to unlock iron smithing. The research point system honestly just encourages sitting around, leaving the game on in the background while watching youtube, and then making sure to check back to wiggle yourself a bit to not get the AFK speed debuff. With proper work I definitely think research could be more fun.

Technology
God I love processing resources. So many items that can be broken down into materials that you otherwise wouldn't really care about. Plus having to manage your generators, make sure everything is plugged in right, being rewarded with greater output in material gains, it's so fun. I always make multiple different bases for different products too. Like making a base on a tech moon to get the infinite iron out of the atmosphere, or one on an ocean world to process the water for things, it's made me make more bases than I ever would otherwise and explore around to see just how much I can get and potentially automate. Only thing that could make it better is if it had pipes or conveyor belts where you could see items being moved from one machine to another. But, that's more so a starbound limitation than anything else, so I won't judge harsh on that.

Missions
The ability to find missions while exploring that unlock new dungeons you can access is quite a treat. Some playthroughs you may not even see all of them, so each playthrough is a lil different in where you go and the items you get. Not to mention all the secrets that the dungeons have to find. Although, a lot of them do get a lil samey, find four switches to unlock 4 gates at the end of the dungeon with loot behind each gate. Besides that though, quite a joy.

Mech Changes
The changes to the mech are much appreciated, the vanilla mech always felt like it was half baked, the improvements made here has made the mechs into a proper sub system of the game you can choose to do. Some playthroughs I'll not bother much with mechs at all, meanwhile on another I may choose to go all in on mechs, making it how I explore planets 99% of the time.

Ship Building and Universe Exploration
Sometimes I love the Ship Building, other times I don't, mainly depends on the mood for that playthrough. Sometimes I wanna be able to just explore the universe without needing to worry about expanding and building out my ship myself. Other times I wanna be all immersed in making my ship perfect. Regardless, no matter if I choose BYOS or Vanilla Ship, exploring is always a treat. All the newly added planets and structures increase the play time of a playthrough by quite a lot, giving you so much more to see. My only wish is that there were even more unique planets, some do seem to overlap a bit. Like the multiple different Atropus planet types.

Bees and Alcohol
Uh...yeah I never have touched these systems. Honestly they feel a bit tacked on, moreso suited to their own mod than being included in this one. Maybe remove it from the main mod and make it an addon instead.

Closing Thoughts
This mod has a lot of good, but quite a bit that could use work. It has helped improve a lot of what Starbound left unfinished or untouched. I could have talked even more about things like specific new weapons, the outpost, the precursors, but I feel like I'd just be gushing at that point. The mod is good, but I hope to see some touch ups to make it even better.

No problem! I do hope to see what the future of the mod can hold, and what improvements can be made.
