Storage Matter Fragments?
I've been away from Starbound for a good while, and I vaguely remember getting a smattering of fragments years ago, but as of current play I'm sitting on on NPC quest requesting 40 fragments but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get fragments legitimately. Are they still regularly obtainable?

Any Item that has a slot count (you can store stuff in) Can be placed in a Storage Matter Extractor and you will get Storage Matter in return 1-2. You can buy the Storage Machines from a Guy at The Outpost to the right of the Tech Guy Below the Bear.

It sounds like your talking about Core Fragments if so that is not relevant to this mod.
BUT you can get them from the first planets mine shaft in lootables or at the core of any planet

Hello Azure Fang, which npc ask you for 40 Fragments? Which quest it is?

@QC
Nope, it was Storage Matter Fragments.

@Neo
Tenant generated quest. The "wants protection" line that ends with you building a home to summon a guard tenant. The quest ended up breaking because I accidentally detatched the tenant's deed, sadly after I admin'd in the fragments to see where it would lead.

That's very interesting.
It seems that those quests pick a random recipe from the game files. Cause there is an old recipe still in the mod files it seems it gets picked sometimes.

Unfortunately the old recipe for the fragments is needed for players who still have some from previous mod versions. A possible solution could to add a new recipe to be able to convert Storage Matter into Fragments...

I kinda thought that was the case. Yeah, those quests backtrack the container recipe to the "ore" stage. Another alternative would be to restore the original container recipes (giving players the option to build containers either way), then remove the fragments completely; any remaining fragments (shouldn't be many in the wild, all things considered) would convert to PGIs with no risk of crash, and the game shouldn't ever request storage fragments again and should default back to the expected vanilla questlines.

But that's just one option.

I never want to destroy players' items. If anyone have e.g. thousands of Fragments, it can be really frustrating if they are gone forever. After some investigating I noticed that the game just picks a random item, which can be unfortunately the fragments. Cause I dont want to remove the fragment items entirely, the only reasonable option would be a new recipe.

I can respect that. I might look into putting together a patch, then, as I personally would rather not have to backtrack a material just to advance the material again a few seconds later.

As discussed before I pushed a minor update to add an inventory crafting recipe for converting Storage Matter into Storage Fragments. Maybe I find a better solution at a later point. This thread can be closed now?

Go ahead. It most certainly explains what's going on :happymeat:
