it's apparently more of an issue that the actual quest is removed which causes the game to crash, if you find a way to delete all of the mod but the quest, it might have a chance of working, one way you can get the mod in this state is by downloading it from the actual starbound forums, unpacking the mod, and deleting everything in it except the "quests" folder, you might also want to keep the "dungeons" folder as well, as that is an entire area, which removing it could lead to errors, although, one thing you can do to figure out what causes the game to crash is to check your logs, which will give you exactly what crashed your game.

correction, i have just confirmed that if you only leave in the "ai" folder, this issue will be resolved because the game still recognized that there is a mission data, however, there is no assets or such for that mission, so trying to run it will simply cause you to teleport back to your ship immediately.
