Bug reports and Balancing issues
Bug reports:

1. Danish roster axemen set to be "missle" instead of "melee" formation

2. Danish Heavy Raider unit is set to use Seb longsword, but actually uses axes, so should be set to use Seb heavy axe.

3. Mercs and admirals are missing both douse flames and use whip. The latter makes sense, but not the former, so they should get douse flames.

4. Merc roster Viking smashers incorrectly listed as having a Seb shield, change to none to match graphics of 2 handed axe and recruitable faction counterpart.

5. (I think you already fixed, but rereporting as requested) Danish roster, some parts of westphalia, irish, and other rosters, some Danish mercs and ship bodyguard units under merc and vanilla rosters: currently set to use vanilla man_entity instead of seb values, so they have less hitpoints.

Documentation issues:

1. Since many of your subscribers love your mods, they probably also subscribe to the better combat mod, but since it works in large part by editing vanilla weapon values (and many of its central other changes to combat like matched combat values are included in this one), it might make sense to include a note on compatibility.

2. Include a note that tech research costs were made less in some cases (I can't see any other changes in the tech tree research value table except the lower costs, were there any? I overwrote with a higher tech cost mod for my personal version, hopefully won't cause me problems).

Naval balancing suggestions:

1. Danish admiral bodyguards have a tech upgrade, but since both are set to hirdmen in vanilla roster list, no change takes place. Perhaps repurpose the huscarls or warlord bodyguards from vanilla roster (not otherwise used) as an upgrade unit.

2. Danish admiral bodyguards are weaker than other factions like the Mercians. Suggest giving them heavy swords (some other faction admiral bodyguards have this).

3. Danish admiral ships are missing the +10 speed given to danish ships (Dragonship). Suggest giving it so that they can keep up.

4. Change viking smashers in both merc and normal roster to use 2 handed axe spacing formation value.

Land balancing suggestions:

1. Danish roster needs some improvements (even after changing the man entity values for hitpoints). This is because they are worse than the Mercians in basically everything. In everything else, Mercians are better, except for a small advantage in archers and a couple of levies for the danes. With better skirmishers, spearmen, and cavalry, the advantage is too great.

I suggest:

- +5 defense values across roster.

- Switch danish light cav to the light horses from medium horses, so they ride faster, and make their elite jarl riders a bit closer to Mercian values. In this time period neither really used cavalry, but if the Danes lose one of their elite slots to a cav unit, it could be a little more capable, and the danes have the same historical claim to using light cav as the anglo saxons, so might as well give them decent speed mounts.

- slight buff to Danish bowmen to reflect their role in spreading the longbow

- slightly earlier achievment of discplined formation spacing for their infantry, reflecting warrior traditions and experience, and slightly higher general training status.

2. Both Mercians and Danes could use some increase in the training level of their formations (ie, use some discplined formations for the formation spacing setting, to be closer to the Franks at the highest levels in infantry).

3. Danish berserkers could use the ambush skirmish settings for better speed and decent mass.

Land issues of a general nature:

1. Heavy and medium 2 handed weapon man entity values are identical, could use a speed or maybe also mass difference.

2. Lots of cavalry with 2 handed axes uses the skirmish man entity when dismounted, probably should be 2 handed

3. Checking the elite berserkers vs jormsvikings, it seems some value may have gotten mixed up (unsure, just reporting in case), perhaps worth looking at their training status and shield setting (heavy vs normal).

Anyway, just liberally reporting things and leaving it for you to decide what you agree with. I really love this mod, thank you!

One additional one:

In melee weapon tables, currently the seb Heavy axe (1 handed) has 2 weapon length, and the Long axe (2 handed dane axe) only has 1 weapon length.

From referencing vanilla tables, this appears to be reversed, and the numbers should be switched.

One more:

Raider trait disappears from higher level Danish swordsmen and axe line as they get upgraded. Not sure if this is intended or not (representing them becoming more of a regular military), but thought it best to report.

Many light cavalry units (for example, mercian) have both a shield and the 2 handed dane axe (seb long axe).

I think that should be the seb heavy axe (1 handed) instead.

Made a list of the light cavalry currently assigned the 2 handed dane axe (seb long axe), all have shields:

(probably needs switch to heavy axe, or maybe archer cavalry axe, or maybe light cav sword)
faction units in the following rosters: Christ, Franks, sicily,
mercs:byzantine light cav,, general skirmish cav,

(seems like it should maybe be the light cavalry sword)
mercian, welsh light cav

I have updated to fix the battle entities, I'll try to do the rest over the weekend.

Cool! The mod is wonderful btw, so much fun!

One more thing to add: Danish 2nd tier primary 1 handed axemen (armored axeman) need to have -10 reduced from their melee defense (from looking at the progression, they are at 73, when their below and above tier upgrades are 60 and 65.

One more bug: (this may be a vanilla bug, I know you didn't mess with naval units much, but since it is a crash and so a serious bug, and can be easily fixed, I am reporting anyway)

The Light Dromont ship, as used by the Frankish naval bow unit, is causing a reproducable crash for me. Every battle, custom or campaign, where a frankish light boatmen unit appears crashes every time.

Testing narrowd the problem down to the cha_dromont_mis ship designation (Switching the unit to cha_dromont solves the crash)

I think something is wrong with that ship. I switched all units to the non missle version for a personal hotfix in the meantime, since I don't know enough to solve the crash otherwise.

Same crash also occurs for lombards, so also for the "dromon" version of the missle "mis" version of the ship not just the "dromont".Not sure if it affects others as well.

A few more suggestions:

Mercian primary axe 2 should be made into attribute group "medium cold" (it currently has spear attributes, including expert charge defense)

Mercian level 3 general should be upgraded in armor to heavy plates (and then superheavy entity to match).

Give danish axemen the heavy raiders attribute group for tier 3 and 4 (the same as danish swordsmen get at those tiers). This is consistent with the swordsmen, and if anything axemen suggests more of a raiding focus.

Light cavalry sword should possibly have increased damage and less bonuses against cavalry (iut currently is widely used among lots of light cavalry, which aren't really particularly anti-cavalry in role and are more for harrassing light foot troops and chasing routers)

I think both Mercian and Dane light cavalry should have the medium cavalry, slower horses (currently danes have them while mercians get the fast light horses, at first I thought upgrade them, but truthfully both should have this weakness, and mercian roster is very strong right now)

Dane bowmen could use longbows, same as used by welsh. There are arguments the norse introduced longbows to england, and whatever the case, the norse had a greater claim to great archers historically than many of the factions, as well as sagas featuring many heroes and kings shooting bows. And the Danish roster could use the boost.

Either the mercians need a slight nerf or the danes need a slight buff on their sword infantry

Give the Danish primary and ancilery troops the normal longboat instead of transport longboat (just not levies). It doesn't change much, given how naval battles work, but is more historically accurate likely and looks so much better than those ugly transport longboats.

Danish top tier axemen and spearmen could use the heavy large round shield instead of just large round (several other factions have it at higher tier)

The following rosters have infantry or cavalry needing switching between 2500 and 1800:

christ (generals, swordsmen)

franks (swordsmen, archers)

irish (generals)

lombards (generals)

Welsh (generals, archers)

Hooded Horse 9 Mar, 2018 @ 6:48pm
Attribute group changes:

Brittany, Irish, Picts, slav, welsh (many units throughout roster should be switched from hot to cold or given cold, general from hot to plain)

christ (lose cold on one levy unit)

Mercian massed levy should probably switch from spear to medium (ie, lose the expert charge defense), to be the same as the similarly equiped frankish massed levy

The following rosters should lose the discplined for the tier II ancelery axemen, and change the tier I to medium from heavy (irish, christ, brittany, picts, welsh)

slave primary axe 2 change from spear to infantry medium
